I will be filling our deep freezer tomorrow when I shop tomorrow.

We still have meat restrictions here, only 2 packs of beef and only 2 packs of chicken. At Walmart I think its limit 1.
I've come here to chew bubble gum, and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

If the other mega beef packing plant, Lakeside in Brooks has an outbreak, we're in trouble.

Around 1,000 Cargill employees laid off following outbreak of COVID-19 cases: Union

CALGARY -- The union representing workers at the Cargill High River protein facility says around 1,000 employees have been laid off following an outbreak of COVID-19 related cases at the plant.

"We're very disappointed because we're not really hearing from Cargill," said Tom Hesse, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers.

The union said about 2,000 workers are split into a morning and afternoon shift.

As of Monday, 38 employees tested positive for the virus. Union officials said one person has since been hospitalized.

The Canadian Cattleman's Association said about 40 percent of the beef processed in Western Canada comes from the High River plant.

Meat will become a lot more expensive soon. And less choice too.

I feel bad for the poor farmers..

Such a waste.

Berry Sweet

The whole thing is disgusting and sad.  I was thinking of stocking up on a few items soon, just incase they price gouge.

There will probably be beef shortages in the near future..

This country's two biggest beef packing houses, Cargill in High River and Lakeside Packers in Brooks are having coronavirus outbreaks.

Cancelled shifts, plant shut downs, there will be beef shortages in Canada.

COVID-19 cases confirmed at 3 Alberta meat-packing plants

Cases have been reported at Cargill, JBS and Harmony — which produce most of Canada's beef

Cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at a third Alberta meat-packing plant, according to the union that represents those workers.

United Food and Commercial Workers Canada Union local 401 president Thomas Hesse said three cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at the JBS plant in Brooks, Alta.

At the Cargill plant in High River, there are 38 COVID-19 cases, and in March one worker at Harmony Beef in Balzac tested positive.

This is bad. What will farmers do with their livestock? Kill them and bury them?

I hope there won't be a shortage of chicken too.

There will probably be rolling shortages of many fresh foods... because of further COVID mutations and biosecurity initiatives...

So we might do without various meats and produce without rhyme or reason and will have to make do with other more readily available things for a few days, weeks, or months...

...here, the supermarkets are relaxing their buying limits on many things including pasta, rice, sugar, and other staples... basically, shelf stable pantry items now that the population panic bought many many months worth of these things...

...but fresh produce and meats took an initial hit... the pendulum will swing on this the other way...

...and then there's consumer items, tech, ink cartridges, webcams, and computer/phone stuff not to mention lithium batteries... a search for anything on our retail websites here turns up "not available" messages.. it could 2-24 months before the manufacturing/supply chain catches up in Asia...assuming that COVID doesn't veer off into dangerous and uncharted waters...

I can see this thing flaring for up to a decade and putting us in a form of evolved Dark Ages...

...and the more prolonged, the more underlying decay surfaces... we're probably in for a rocky ride...
Blahhhhhh...

With those packing houses, they hire third world immigrants who live and work like sardines in a can.

This virus doesn't care about social distancing... three quarters of us will have it in 1-2 years...

Yeah well if they allow people in our country, it will.

No Americans should be allowed in Australia.

I feel for my neighbor who has two grandchildren in the USA and she cannot visit them and they cannot come here.

Both of those massive beef processing plants are close to my city..

It's impossible to have social distancing on their production lines.

Fash, the beef will still be there ready for slaughter in a few weeks. They won't run away.
