Seattle police Chief Carmen Best announced her retirement following the city council's decision to cut the police department budget by 14 percent. According to this report, the cuts would have had little effect on Best's salary, but will reduce the salary of the 12 non-union sworn officers on her command staff.



More importantly, the cuts will reduce the number of regular police officers in Seattle. Up to 100 jobs might be lost through layoffs and attrition. Actually, I think we can expect a larger exodus of police officers, given the city council's lack of support. Carmen Best can't be the only member of the force who will look for more hospitable employment.



In other words, Antifa and BLM have won. Residents of the city of Seattle have lost.

Even Seattle's left-wing mayor understands this. Jenny Durkan called the cuts "infuriating and deeply disappointing." She noted that the council did not cut the salary of any other municipal department head or its own staff.



Why should it have? This isn't about the budget, it's about far left ideology and catering to the mob. Only those who protect the city against criminals are the target.



Best was the first Black woman to lead the Seattle Police Department. She served the force for 28 years. I think she has a better understanding of how to protect Black lives than do the mostly White members of the mob that marched on her house and is demanding police defunding.



I should also note that the 14 percent budget cut is unlikely to pacify the "defund" mob. There will be plenty of bang (shootings) for the non-bucks, but the mob won't be happy until the police force is off the streets entirely.





On a sad but  comedic note, the only council member who voted against it did so because cuts were "not enough"

When asked if they wanted the police to spend more time, the same amount of time or less time in their neighborhoods, 61% of Black adults surveyed prefer the presence remain the same. The finding is similar to U.S. adults at 67% and White Americans, of which 71% preferred authorities spend the same amount of time in their area.



Around 20% of Black people polled said they would like to see an increased police presence compared to 19% of respondents who favor the police spend less time in their area. Asian Americans were more likely to want less police presence in their neighborhoods with 28%, according to the findings."

Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced on Tuesday that his office will not prosecute many protesters who have been arrested during recent Portland demonstrations.



Schmidt said his office will presumptively decline to prosecute those whose most serious accusation doesn't involve deliberate property damage, theft or the use or threat of force against someone else.



Charges that fall under that category include interfering with a peace officer, second-degree disorderly conduct and rioting, among others.

California Black Lives Matter Leader Charged with Five Felonies, Faces 15 Years in Prison



Activist Tianna Arata was arrested on July 21 by the San Luis Obispo Police Department (SLOPD) in California after police said a protest she organized turned violent.

In a statement released following Arata's arrest, the department said SLOPD Police Chief Deanna Cantrell had spoken with Arata ahead of the rally and had been assured that the protest would be peaceful.



However, SLOPD said the protest, which grew to a demonstration involving approximately 300 people, got out of hand when demonstrators marched onto a highway and, at one point, launched an assault on a passenger vehicle, despite a 4-year-old child being inside.



It is unclear what led up to the incident, but SLOPD said protesters damaged the hood of the vehicle and smashed the rear window, causing glass to shatter on the 4-year-old, who was sitting in the back seat.



According to police, protesters also targeted at least two other vehicles upon exiting the highway, with some demonstrators seen chasing down and throwing objects at one car.



The protest, police said, "resulted in significant public safety risks for protesters and community members."





While Cali is soft on crime in general,  San Luis Obispo  & San Diego play the hardball needed to stop this stuff
