Waitomo Glowworm caves in New Zealand would be a cool experience.

I fell in love with the Blue Ridge mountains long ago. I believe they are also referred to as the Smoky Mountains or at least they make up the same mountain range?

Gatlinburg AKA "Gateway to the Smokies" we chose as honeymoon spot, as part of a Tennessee tour coming back through Virginia  .. While some time ago it was a much nicer place to be that our hokey built-for-Vancouver Yuppies area

Is Gatlinburg still "dry"? Of course one does what what one wants in their hotel room (you can add whatever connotations to that  you wish   )

Also prefer the Smokies and ' Blue Ridge Mountains to the Rockies here

A farmer we knew was charging a fee for guided tours of one of the cave systems on his property and it was a blast. Started at hole in the field about the size of an abdomen and ended about a kilometre away. It was like being a worm or snake trying to get through sections of it.....having to angle shoulders and such.

Plenty of cave spiders, bats, and wombat poo...

I have no desire to tour an abandoned cave.

I toured the cave system on Barbados years ago....Damp, cold and dark. I got pics of some interesting limestone rock formations but all in all it was a rather uncomfortable, unsettling and rather underwhelming experience.

That would be cool. An abandoned mine, I don't know.

It was okay. They actually have a tram system that you ride down into the cave.

Mines are abandoned usually because of one of two reasons,...They are either played out or too dangerous to be used.

Amateurs crawling around in underground holes without proper safety gear and without an outside contact to alert a rescue team in the event of a mishap are complete idiots....But I think you already knew that.
