Doug Mayer, a volunteer at the museum, witnessed the incident and said the train started moving again roughly 30 seconds after the cyclists were clear.



Mayer said he can't believe how stupid some people are and he sees things like this all the time. He has also seen people climbing over rail cars to avoid waiting for stopped trains and driving around control gates when the train is only two hundred metres away. It is dangerous, he said.



What annoyed him the most, he said, was that the cyclists appeared to be a man in his 30s with a 14 or 15 year old teenager.

We used to climb over/under trains like this all the time when they were stopped in White Rock.  Nothing really inherently dangerous about it as long as you're not a gimp and can move...  They don't accelerate fast, and you can easily hear when they start moving again...

If I had the time, I could post a 100 page thread about the stupid things I've seen people do around freight trains.

I saw CP police arrest a trespasser climbing onto and over a rail car at Keith yard in Calgary recently.

We used to climb all over active trains in our Youts!



Even had the CP Police show up at my Grandparents house one time!   :laugh:



I told them I wasn't anywhere near a train...  And they left! ac_razz
