Yes a few others across Canada but the Kamloops one was Catholic.



I feel for these people, they treated them horribly.  I know this one particular guy, I have mentioned him before...he's my age, he was put into residential school...eventuallybhe was adopted out...he went to a good family but its all fucked up...anyhow, he's a magnificent artist...some of his work is for sale...he's just an amazing guy....but--he's an on again off again addict...its sad to know the reason why.

Plans are being made to identify and return home the remains of more than 200 children found buried at the site of a former residential school in British Columbia's Interior, says a provincial Indigenous leader.



The Kamloops Indian Band wants to undertake the "heart-wrenching" process to eventually tell the stories of the children and bring peace to their families, said Terry Teegee, Assembly of First Nations regional chief.



The effort could involve the B.C. Coroners Service, the Royal B.C. Museum and forensics experts, he said.

They need to get on it immediately.

I have a bunch of teddy bears on my door step...I didn't want to pit any immediate special stuff just in case it got stolen.  I asked daughter if she had an old teddy's she didn't want...I told her what I was doing and she looked like she was gonna cry....she immediately went to storage and got a bag of teddy's I could use...I wish I could say more to my daughter about this topic but I don't know what to say...the teddy bear thing is enough for now...she's really gotten a distaste for white people lately...not to say I don't blame her...but I made sure to let her know,  its mostly religion that did this.

There is another major problem on reserves. Sexual assault is rampant on reserves. I've worked on a lot of reserves in my career. Without exception on all reserves, sexual assault of young girls was a problem.

AKA the poop following so many society-destroying destructive acts  ... offered a measly token  bit of sorrow, while at the same time going far out of his way to NOT apologize  .. not even a bit .. even though his church was 100% responsible for this one and for SO MANY other similar horrific situations



What with all the known school incidents known to date + many more to come to light shortly + 1000s of instances of kiddie diddling  ... It boggles my mind how anyone can support and follow an institution that has deliberately done so much harm to so many children over a very long period of time



To his credit, the arch bishop of Vancouver offered "extreme apology"

There are many such schools that have been exposed already for doing exactly that. Finally the publicity of this current discovery will of course start an avalanche of exposer of many more. Finally people will come to know what it did for over a century



Of course the leadership is responsible for all it's peons have done  .. and in fact have tried to buy off and make disappear knowledge of what it has done for decades



The Canada Govt., while not known to be complicate in the horrors that were going on within the schools, also played a role in this evil operation by approving at least 2 denominations to run these "schools"  and certainly did not follow through and  check thoroughly on the safety of these children.



Finally, thanks to this current one, ALL (and there were many) such schools will be heavily investigated for all to see what actually went on

The Tk'emlups Heritage Park is closed to the public as work continues, with the potential that crews may find more remains.



The children, some as young as three, were students at the school, which was once the largest in Canada's residential school system.



Casimir said it's believed the deaths are undocumented, though the Secwepemc Museum's archivist is working with the Royal British Columbia Museum to see if any records of the deaths can be found.



Kamloops Indian Residential School operated from 1890 to 1969, with peak enrollment of 500 in the 1950s.



"With access to the latest technology, the true accounting of the missing students will hopefully bring some peace and closure to those lives lost and their home communities," said Casimir in a release.



"This is the beginning but, given the nature of this news, we felt it important to share immediately," she said.



"At this time we have more questions than answers."

Administration of the school was handed over to the federal government in 1969 and then the Cowessess First Nation in 1987 before being closed in 1997. Everything but the church, rectory and cemetery was demolished shortly after, according to National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation records.



The First Nation teamed up with an underground radar detection team from Saskatchewan Polytechnic to begin the search just over three weeks ago. In an interview in late May, Cowessess First Nation Chief Cadmus Delorme told the Regina Leader-Post that he did not know how many people's remains might be discovered.  It is estimated that only one third of graves are marked.



[Personal Note - While I felt the horror of the Kamloops discovery, it's getting even more personal to us. This is the Cowessess reserve 2 hrs East of Regina, then 10 minutes north of Broadview that we lived on and completed a 6 month project for in 2,000 and got to know many there, especially on the Council with whom we worked closely.

Also, growing up very near to the 6 Nations in Ontario, and spending much time there with native friends as a teen, I often heard rumblings of buried bodies there as a teen  (No, I'm not native, but they accepted me as a friend and often invited me into their homes for dinners and shared their thoughts and concerns about their history)



This whole thing is obviously massive and something we owe natives to get onto  all across the country .. as we all know there were many more such atrocities ]
