I am a business owner. What am I paying taxes for if the police are going to stand around and watch looters and vandals destroy in one night what it took me decades to build.

Perhaps all US businesses should acquire additional anti theft devices.

I believe this one would be highly effective.

Having fired this one extensively, I can attest to the fact that no looter will survive, as it's a 7.62 round. But it's a bit of a lump to lug around and Ideally needs a crew of two to operate due to the need to interchange barrels.

Okay fine, business owners will buy that. And it should be paid for with the tax rebate they get for the police portion since they are not doing their jobs.

7.62 x 39 is a mediocre round. Does the job but bigger is preferable. Plus most of it on the market is corrosive and you have to clean constantly.
Blahhhhhh...

Bricktop

We were punching holes in concrete blocks with it.

I think it would dissuade looters.

Why stop at dissuading.
Blahhhhhh...

Bricktop

Because the word "slaughter" might give prosecutors some reason to allege intent.

Frood

I would prefer the phrase "ended looting permanently" be entered into the legal handbooks.

Is that what the Australian Army uses or did use?

Yes the 7.62 x 39 is a mediocre round. In power it falls just below the venerable old 30-30 which has been getting the job done on deer sized game for almost 130 years....

BUT the M60 doesn't fire the 7.62 x 39, at least not the US version. The M60 fires the 7.62 X 51 NATO as does the newer M240. 7.62 x 51 is a snottier version of the .308 Win. which is a considerably more effective round.

But the point is moot... This what you need to keep unruly customers in line....The Boring flame thrower brought to you by Elon Musk...

It retails for around $500. Hand a few of these out to some key store personnel and it will dissuade just about the toughest would be looters. Unfortunately the Boring only throws its fire about 10 feet but it's enough to scorch a pavement ape or two and send the rest running for their lives... Most people can't handle the smell of burning human hair and flesh and the blood curdling screams of a scumbag on fire can get pretty intense...  ac_toofunny  Additionally no barrels to change, no corrosive ammo to worry about and no real training necessary, just an unflinching willingness to use it and a strong stomach...  ac_umm

4 journalists, all female.

Are there more female journalists?

I know that is not your point, but I'm just curious......is journalism now a predominantly female profession?

Bricktop

Anecdotally, it seems to me to be heading in that direction. Local news stations here are certainly dominated by females. The BBC is heavily staffed by females. I don't know about the US or Canada.

That is not to say that females are not doing a good job in that profession. But it seems to be an attractive career choice for that gender, much in the way of teaching.

As to the why's and wherefore's, that's for another discussion.

I never gave it much thought, but I just assumed it was fifty fifty.
