We are not in disagreement on this issue.



If I was in Putin's shoes I'd probably consider demonstrating my chagrin as well by showing force.



But it is a high risk gamble because I would be fully aware that if NATO decided to make a move, I've run out of options.



I doubt that NATO will...but it has priors for intervening in non-NATO conflicts. It bombed Serbia in the mid 90's to force the Serbians out of Bosnia.



I'm certain there is a diplomatic path out of this circumstance, should the parties involved choose to go that way. But Russia cannot accept a solution that enables NATO missiles to be positioned 300km from Moscow.



Kennedy was prepared to go to war in the 60's for just that reason.
