Bringing Ukraine to EU rather than to Nato would have provided that additional feeling of security.

And Russia doesnt see EU as hostile.

Europe has been cucked by the USA since WW2.

Biden thinks he is in command.

There is some truth in that. Russia does not have a trust issue with Europe, they have a trust issue with the US. I do not blame them either.

Bricktop

I think this is the core of the issue.

Russia has always wanted the warmongering US out of Europe.

In that, he has a lot more support among European nations than the US thinks. France is certainly happy to have a US-free Europe, to leave it to manage its own problems.

Now that the US is in a state of collapse, it is an opportune time to put some pressure on Europe and slyly hint that a deal can be done...without American interference. If that happens, US influence across the globe will collapse.

Their day is done.

White House is getting scared. Says Americans Should Immediately Begin To Evacuate From Ukraine

If Russia moves now, it will become a global pariah, cementing it's notoriety as a bullying, lying, treacherous and dangerous member of the global community.

It's a pariah in the US and English speaking countries only. Europeans and Asians have a better understanding of the big bad Russian bear.

Frood

I view Russia favourably.... aside from its persistent problems like gay treatment, oligarchies, and Putin's reign.

It's doing what it should be doing on this issue.

I am indifferent. The Biden administration treats Iran more favourably for Christ sake.

I agree.

But if he fails to head Europe's warnings, his support there will collapse. Europeans won't trust Russia again.

There are some easy outs of this mess. But it seems the US is more concerned with ramping up the tension.

It's like Biden is sitting in his basement screaming "Hey guys, listen to me. Listen to MEEE!" as crickets chirp gleefully.
