97 percent voted for annexation by the Russian Federation. Eastern Ukraine also wants to join the Russian Federation. Sadly, Ukraine is a dysfunctional state.

But the membership in itself might uplift the living standards for your average Ukrainian.

EU is not exactly a military might.



But the membership in itself might uplift the living standards for your average Ukrainian.

Ukraine is a mess. They are looking for some stability. If the US offered statehood the average Uke, especially in the West would consider it. Not Donbas, it's future is with Russia.

Even with the predominatly Russian part of Ukraine transferred to Russia, Moscow will not accept NATO on it's borders.

Agreed Russia will never accept NATO.



That said, the country would be greatly stabilized if the Russians were gone and chances of fighting which will draw Russia in are virtually eliminated
