The supply of new posters and new alts were bountiful back then.

Then social media hit the scene and everybody turtled.

Don't they see that's no longer possible anymore.

Some people still think that the scene will come back or go retro...

I do too...

But it may return after I'm long dead.
Blahhhhhh...

Do they believe the last person posting wins?

I don't recall anyone coming right out and saying so, but that's how some of 'em act.

The only problem with that is unless the last one happens to also be the site owner it's never going to actually work out that way; the place will be long gone before it's only the lone survivor.

No matter how you slice it a scorched earth approach is dumb.

They don't think past tomorrow do they.

They keep doing what they are doing, the forums will be dead before residents of a palliative care home.

I get that you don't understand the scene or respect it.... but there were hardly no people who called themselves flamers at the time or even trolls. It was just what people did if they could be anonymous and say what they liked for shits and giggles.

It was the wild wild west online.... then governments and spoilsports interceded... now we have Karen's and Chad's....
Blahhhhhh...

If that is what filled their days.

It filled many of my evenings.

What's the difference between acting in films or taking on a persona online?

Between conceptualising an online presence or creation or simply rehashing a director's version of a character in limited script and dialogue?

Money and fame.... that's all it is.

Interactive name calling?? My time online is finite. That is not productive use of it.

I definitely think it's (remotely) possible but not as long as people are trying to force it to happen.

That's exactly the opposite of what might actually work.

First the conditions have to be favorable and *then*, maybe, the scene will naturally reinvent itself.

I'm not holding my breath though.

Not much or very seriously, no.

An example of the other perspective:

My offline time is finite as well. Why would I waste any of it golfing?

You go on about flaming so much I wonder if you secretly yearn to be a flamer. There's definite interest there

Flaming and trolling have been with us since the dawn of time, but they were called other things.

My career is sedentary enough. I look forward to my morning workout and golf at least three times a week. Something tells me flaming is a less healthy substitute.
