The erosion of freedom and the elimination of choice in Canada is speeding up. Our communist city council will decide how 1 million people can move around this hellhole of a city.

QuoteMore details are emerging about Edmonton's plan to become a 15-minute city.

One of those details is the city wants people to cut their vehicle usage by 50% to use other modes of transportation.

It appears the Edmonton wants to be a 15-minute city for residents and that cars will have limited places to drive and park once the plan is finished.

Whyte Avenue may look very different in the coming years as the city plans to convert one lane each way to a dedicated bus lane and remove some parking to widen sidewalks.

I know urban zoning laws in this country are anachronistic. However, libtards don't want us owning and driving private autimobilies, even the electric variety.

Quote15-minute cities are only the latest front in the war on cars

They highlight the folly of centralized municipal planning, even if no one is actually trying to lock you into your neighbourhood

The backlash against Edmonton's "City Plan" shows that Canadians are finally starting to realize that municipalities are centrally planned bureaucracies intent on exerting social control over businesses and residents.

The controversy surrounds city hall's long-term plan to turn Edmonton into a "15-minute city" by the time its population hits two million — about double what it is today. While it will initially focus on widening sidewalks and building trails to "encourage walking," as Mayor Amarjeet Sohi put it, the ultimate goal is that every Edmontonian will be able to access most services within a 15-minute commute by foot, bike or public transit.

Trying to turn Edmonton into Manhattan was bound to receive pushback.

Yet it is not a stretch to say that these measures are an attempt at social engineering — the Oxfordshire county council explicitly states that one of its goals is to "reduce unnecessary journeys by private vehicles and make walking, cycling, public and shared transport the natural first choice." Nor is it folly to suggest that this is part of a war on cars being waged by governments around the world and bolstered by climate alarmists in academia.

A recent report from the Climate and Community Project at the University of California, Davis argues that it's not enough to simply force everyone to buy electric vehicles to combat climate change, as Canada's Liberal government is in the process of doing. That would create too much demand for the lithium used in batteries, resulting in "large-scale mining" and all the "social and environmental harm" that comes with it.

Rather than constantly trying to control what can and cannot be built by fiat, and fixing problems caused by old zoning laws with new ones, cities would be better off simply doing away with most zoning restrictions, which would likely serve the same goals of increasing density and the number of commercial services operating in many neighbourhoods. Allowing more toll roads to be built with private funds would likewise help reduce congestion and save taxpayer dollars, without prohibiting people from driving on roads that were bought and paid for with their money.

I read something about these plans. I do not know how it works. But, if prog money is behind it, it has to be bad for working folks.

15 minute cities are coming either by carrot or stick.

They want us consolidated and more easily managed in a Neo-Feudalistic scenario. Everybody who refuses them will be ostracised, cut off from their tax paid benefits, and treated like scum by the approved media outlets. They'll essentially be cancelled.

They won't be able to easily access banking, take out loans, find health/property insurance, receive adequate schooling for their children, travel into these centres.

So basically, any slum or ghetto for the last 70 years... but in reverse.
Blahhhhhh...

Like dsm said, bitchute is fine as entertainment, but you still have to know what you are talking about to be taken seriously.

Look what a fifteen minute city has meant for Oxfordshire. It is lockdowns part deux.

Fair enough, but have you read the impact of fifteen minute cities on residents in the most infamous example, Oxforshire. I doubt you have.

Its necessary to own AR-15's. Never register them BTW. Why is an AR-15 necessary? For killing people.
