I don't think schools are failing... People having kids who do not put in the effort into parenting are the culprits to children failing.

I think parents fail because in the west, parents would rather smoke, drink, take illegal drugs and gamble, and fool around cheating on each other....

You cannot expect schools to do your parenting  for you...

And it'll never change because humans are greedy tumbleweed and have hay seeds for brains.

My 2 nieces are teachers, and one of them is a Principal...

The other thing to is, kids are lacking proper nutrition.

So you're not WRONG about some parents BUT the schools really have gone to total shit and no matter how good the parent....the schools are now pushing politics (or have been). Sexual identity politics and the LGBTQ propaganda.

Lots and lots of parents are fighting it. I pulled my kids right out a few years ago. My oldest graduated, she's in college now and she works. So she's busy. She works in the medical field and is in nursing school. She wants to be a CRNA. She's done with her pre reqs and about to do a 4 year BSN program.  She already has her car paid off too.

My 17 year old is wanting to go into culinary or dietician but she's taking a break and just kinda babysitting and saving her money.  This next presidential election will be her first election she can vote in and she's been getting into politics more and looking into policies and all the unintended consequences of them and really diving into how the government works. State and federal. And learning the Constitution.  She's learning to hate the democrats all on her own and it's a beautiful thing to witness  ac_wub

My youngest reads way above the grade level she would be on. She only struggles with math. She has never set foot in a school. I'm looking for a good hybrid program though for her. I'd like to get her into dance or gymnastics or something she gets to use physical energy and has to be coordinated.

I do not trust the public schools at all and that started long before this nasty sex shit.

Education departments tell teachers what to teach. My niece is told to teach this identity jargon and when she uses regular language the abo kids pick her up on it.

I told her to say it like this, "(insert diabolical new phrase) formerly known as women"....

If people do not send their kids to school they better make sure they learn maths and English perfectly.

I have to applaud your efforts Dove. I chanced to run into someone that is even now at university and studying to become a teacher. A short discussion later and I had already determined that she was being indoctrinated into CRT and Marxist ideology. The rot is quite real and not easily dismissed as being in the imagination.

Back when China had their revolution 15 year old male and female soldiers were bayoneting their grandparents and parents to death, it was that bad. I see the same division happening between generations now. I realise it sounds like an exaggeration but it isn't. The brats break into old people's places and bash them over their heads looking for money, food and pain meds.

I can believe it. The stuff George Orwell and Anthony Burgess wrote about decades before is largely an outgrowth of socialist policies and it's the reason why those societies eventually fall apart. You and I are watching it unfold in western society now and for what it's worth, I hope you're in your final resting place before it comes to your neighbourhood in the form you described in China. We've had our differences, we will again I'm sure, but I surely don't wish for you or anyone else here to have to face that kind of shit, especially not in the winter of their lives.

A good editorial by Rex Murphy directly related to the topic thread. Particularly, how woke activism has replaced learning in the classrooms.

For schools and apparently the PM, parents are the new 'deplorables'

Parents are reviled as 'hateful' if they voice concerns about woke activism in the classroom

School boards, schools, and particularly individual teachers should make a choice: are they involved in education or social justice and woke activism?

Because from every bulletin they put out, and all the preachments about their "commitment" to diversity and inclusion and equity, and safe spaces, and above all their latest deep commitment to "trans rights," it is ruefully clear that their passion is for activism.

The latest arena of that activism is of course the fresh concept of the "trans rights of children," and particularly how some schools and school boards have nominated themselves as the final judges on the rightness or wrongness of this explosively contentious issue.

Schools and boards are mesmerized by the political-cultural issues on the "progressive" side of things. There are endless, jargon-addled bulletins about their commitment to LGBTQ activism, the various school days dedicated to celebrating difference and anti-bias and anti-discrimination. In many schools, Pride — the overall label — has become something like a new sacrament. Pride days, Pride month, and now Pride season — this is like a year-long Christmas for one-interest activism and proselytism.

These schools and boards are astoundingly haughty and unashamedly arrogant. Their every statement comes burdened with certitude, and they blister with all sorts of angry terms for those who have a dissenting perspective. They rail against and belittle parents who are deeply distressed by the massive over-attention given to the schools' and teachers' missionary endeavours on children's sexuality. Parents are the new "deplorables."

They are reviled as "hateful" if they disagree. They are shut down at school board meetings if they even inquire what is being taught, what books their children are being exposed to, and at what age. School authorities insist that they — not parents — and they alone know what is right. And to disagree with them — well that's cruelty.

Mother — father — child. No institution has superiority over this fundamental and civilizationally core relationship. No teacher, no school, no board of education has the right to override the primacy of the family, to arrogate the authority of mother and father on nothing more than their say-so.

Now consider this statement by the prime minister on the weekend regarding proposed New Brunswick legislation that would force children under 16 to get parental consent to change their names or pronouns at school: "We're seeing that angry, hateful rhetoric rise on our continent, particularly targeting trans people. Far-right political actors are trying to outdo themselves with the types of cruelty and isolation they can inflict on these already vulnerable people."

This is unbelievable. It's mad. Are parents, fired by concern issuing from the love they hold for their children, "far-right political actors?" Are these concerned, loving parents "trying to outdo themselves ... with (what) cruelty and isolation they can inflict" on their offspring?

Can he mean any of this? Could he be saying that parents should not be tolerated?

From the serene height of the Prime Minister of Canada's office we have an angry — I would call it hateful – declaration that parents are cruel, sadistic, and by implication very ignorant. I regard this statement of his as graver than the Chinese interference scandal.

There is much more to be said on this. And Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre's tepid, evasive statement that "education" is a provincial affair, doesn't cut it at all. We're not talking about education as we used to know that word. He has to be far clearer, more direct, and explicit on this subject. His statement was a waffle.

We are talking about diminishing and hurling insults at parents who are not on board with the new ideology, the new religion of diversity, inclusion and equity. It is the fundamentalism of our time.

We have shit tons of activist teachers here in the states. It sucks.

I never wanted to homeschool. But I'm doing it and so far getting very good results. But as she goes up in grade levels I know I'm gonna struggle so I'm working on finding a hybrid program or getting some good resources to help support me in teaching her.

It's fun overall....for now when it's super easy.
My happiness is all of your misery. I put good dick all in my kidneys.

I don't know why you can't send her to school and teach her certain things are wrong at home.

I let my son learn everything.... right and wrong. Wrapping children in cotton wool isn't my idea of parenting.

Peer pressure for one. With some teachers these days actively marketing the children's parents as "enemies" and encouraging the ever increasing groundswell of disapproval for traditional gender roles and sexual preferences, most children today are getting bullied into the transgender route because it's the current cool.

Besides, how many kids do you know that rebel against their parents once they hit the teenage years?

When your son would've went to school, there would've been minimal levels of propaganda fed into his head all day.

That's all changed now, and the propaganda has ramped up BIG TIME!  I know a guy here with kids in public Elementary School dealing with just that.  He has to deprogram them almost every evening.

All children rebel.... sooner or later they return though... I was thinking depriving them of school deprives them of nifty things like report cards and earned rewards and besty friends.....  School has  upsides  as well.

My son could read at 3 and by high school, a maths genius and musician. ...  he was badly  bullied when he changed schools to the low socio-ecconomic boofheads in my new neighbourhood after I married..... when I found out I took him back to the school where he was a 4th generation pupil.... where genteel people reside.

I wouldn't have the temperament now to put up with low standards of any kind.

Agreed, and even some of the bad things (bullying as we knew it for example) are an essential part of societal development. You weigh all that against the cost of your child getting sterilized because they've been convinced it solves their problems though, I can see why parents like Dove are sacrificing much to give their children a chance of the things you and I took for granted growing up.

Shit, I don't remember hearing anything at school regarding sex ed until I was in high school. And I went to a number of different schools growing up. These days there are too many teachers and social workers attempting to convince kids as young as kindergarteners into gender affirming care... and to not discuss it with their parents under any circumstances because parents are the enemy.

It is a weighing up job... I would say to Kane, whatever you're being told is not true, just theory and conjuncture.

Regarding exposure to sex topics, farm kids get early educations, us city kids didn't. Sex was definitely a taboo topic but what is MAJORLY different from then to today is access to porn via the net so I guess some people would rather open up about that topic earlier with kids.

Not far from now the courts will be flooded with child trans victims, fully grown humans, suing doctors and teachers and whatnot for serious bodily harming them...

Well you'd hope so, but it's still shutting the gate after the horse has bolted. And considering how the various justice systems of the west operate now and where they are headed, those victims will be lucky to get cents in the dollars of their lifelong suffering, if their case is heard at all.

The perps need to be nailed dead to rights NOW. The real problem as I see it is their continued shenanigans are atomizing the very society my grandparents fought to preserve, something our parents generation and ours did little to uphold and our kids generation saw fit to toss on the scrapheap. Generation Z and Alpha will pay for that oversight with their reproductive rights, both by virtue of the almost mandatory transgenderism and the headlong push to rewrite humanity's DNA with mRNA injections.

Faith in the institutions once regarded as our best way forward is at an all time low and getting lower. Governments, medical, education, law enforcement, military, judicial... all are suffering a crisis of confidence due to corruption, greed and rampant totalitarianism. I don't know how much of this Dove understands, but her move to homeschool her children is a step in the right direction. Whether she succeeds or not is another matter entirely, but I for one have my fingers crossed for her and Squish.

Well Squish needs to go and be with kids her own age too... so hopefully Dovey finds a play group where she can have some socialisation.
