Ohh, I knew there had to be an excuse somewhere to justify it. Very well, let's play that angle then. My own father was raised in Capel from around the age of two to the age of thirteen before he was mercifully rescued to the more civilized climes of Sydney (as Ross Ryan was).



He didn't regard himself as a West Aussie either. We did a road trip across the Nullarbor when I was around ten, the first West Aussie plated car we encountered was about 40 miles from the Eucla roadhouse. "WA - State of Excitement" it read. "More like the Backwards State" my father remarked, continuing "it might be two hours behind by the clock, but it's twenty years behind the rest of the country."



I see no reason to doubt him either. I mean, "his childhood was Western Australian", just like Ross Ryan's was. And as we now learn, mine was too. And all of us preferred the eastern states to the west.
