We have wild turkeys in this area too. I have seen them occasiaonally driving to Horseshoe Valley resort.

Ya, you guys have the Eastern Wild Turkey out there.  At one point these nuisance birds were hunted out of existence, but for some reason unknown to me, they were reintroduced and protected as a species.  To even mention culling nuisance species would have the tree huggers up in arms.

Most people don't even like the taste of them, preferring to eat the Domesticated Turkey instead.

I have eaten Merriam's turkeys. The white meat is industinguishable from heritage breed domestic turkeys like the Standard Bronze which look like wild turkeys.

Ruger 10/22 with a soda bottle silencer. No one will ever know. Make sure you put a thermal scope on it like I did to mine. Yes, I own a $300 rifle with a $2000 scope.

My other option could be an air rifle, but those are viewed as firearms once muzzle velocity exceeds 500 FPS here, so I'm not sure if even a .22 cal air rifle @ 500 FPS would pack enough kick to reliably do the job.

Not unless you shot a bird in the head from a few feet away.

I really wish I had Mel's problem with turkeys on my land. I would not be raising domestic turkeys and my freezer would still be full.

Speaking of surprise guests, I saw a pair of pronghorn antelope on my farm on Sunday. I knew there were some in the area, but this was the first time I seen any on my farm.

I thought about this.  I do own a Marlin Model 60 (.22 LR), and was considering experimenting with subsonic rounds and other suppression techniques (suppressors are illegal in this country).  It's equipped with a cheap ass Bushnell scope though...

The .22 LR running subsonics may be my best bet...  Knowing my neighbours, they'd most likely be appreciative if I cleaned up the neighbourhood of these nuisance flying shit machines.

I assumed you'd be breaking your federal law period. I'd own a .22 with a suppressor anyway as it is a great means of killing anything and if you're breaking the law, who gives a fuck if its full auto at that point.

Well the have rush hours then they rest...

Look bird keeps pests low... lawn = lawn beetles.

Digging up your lawn is not good so choose another idea....you've woodchips but you can also get ground cover plants. I only have lawn on my council verge.... on my property l have plants and brick paving.....

I bought some burlap to place over the areas that I'll fix up.  That can stay on the ground until the grass is well established, keeping the shit machines from destroying my hard work and money.

I've never eaten a Merriam's, but the people out here that have typically prefer the store bought ones.  I'll take their word for it, before cooking something that I'll just end up throwing out anyways...

If buffalo grass grows in Canada that is the toughest grass...

Grow some of that.

I still you should bag one with your .22 and try it for yourself.

I can shoot firearms on my property here.  I just have to be 100 meters away from any house if I recall.  I don't because I don't want to be a bad neighbour and make noise, but a subsonic .22 LR may be quiet enough to not bother anyone.

Does Canduhduh force you to use only bolt actions? Also, are hollow points illegal?

Grow some of that.

Seems that St. Augustine grass isn't really suitable for our climate (too cold).

When I overseeded, the hardiest blend I could find for our climate is called Horse Pasture mix (usually only found at farmers supply markets), which I used but it's crazy expensive and only comes in big sacks.

For small patch jobs like this I just use a drought resistant, slow growing mix, which is good for this climate:

Perennial Ryegrass

Purple Tansy

Crimson Clover

The vast majority of semi-auto rifles are now prohibited thanks to Trudeau, which means people have to keep them secured in their homes.  This is the strangest gun ban I've ever seen.  Pump and lever actions are still good to go though, as are semi-auto shotguns and rimfires.

So my Marlin 60 semi-auto .22 LR is legal to take out and shoot.

Hollow points are legal.

I have no idea what your front looks like however you have plenty of Canadian ground covers so this is what I would do...

Lay down chicken wire... then plant ground cover plants..

You never have to mow it ... the chicken wire will stop the Turkey scratching..

I have designed a few front yards...

How many turkies have invaded your space?

The burlap will stop the Turkey's from scratching.  Once the grass is established they'll leave it alone.  I've been through this once before with the damn things, and should've known they'd be up to their old tricks.

My property is quite large, so I'm unwilling to undergo any significant changes.  Just want to be able to get on the ride-on mower, have a few brews, and cut.

Basically I'm just filling in a few dips that the mower struggles through, leveling things out a bit.  The Turkey's roam in packs here of maybe four to 10...
