The dangerous rise of Marine Le Pen



Ms Le Pen's continuing ascent is a profoundly worrying development for France and for Europe. While she has largely detoxified the raw image that the FN had under her father, the party still retains below the surface a strongly racist and anti-immigrant streak. Its economic policies, which focus on abandoning the euro and erecting protectionist barriers, are not remotely credible. Yet the chronic weakness of the two main parties in France – the socialists and the centre-right UMP – has given her every chance to advance.



The implications of Ms Le Pen's triumph go well beyond France. It is an early herald of the serious gains that extremist parties are poised to make in May's European elections. One of the main reasons why the FN did so well at the weekend is that the abstention rate was high. This should act as a warning to voters across Europe that they must cast a ballot in the European poll if far-right parties are not to prosper.



But the big implication of these results is for France. Ms Le Pen has made no secret that her goal is to emulate her father and be a credible candidate for the French presidential election in 2017. While many might find the idea abhorrent, a strong performance from Ms Le Pen three years from now is increasingly conceivable. France's mainstream politicians must stop the rot while they still can.

this is what happens when the progressive left institutes policies that are diametrically opposed to what the majority of the population desire.....they put up with it for a while but eventually grow weary of the bullshit and get interested enough to rebel...the same will happen here...unfortunately it will require force to undo all the damage brought about by decades of radical left wing ideologies and policies.....we are doomed if these groups do not succeed in rolling back the socialist hordes.....IMHO only military force will be able to reverse the damage in time.....going the ballot box route over the next 40 years will be too late.

The investigation of Sunday's shooting at the Jewish Museum in Brussel is still ongoing, and assessments regarding the motive are varied, but Belgian authorities say the attack, which is being investigated as a terror incident, has anti-Semitic characteristics.



Until all the details are known, the act of violence in the heart of Europe joins the successes of the far right across Europe in Sunday's elections for the European Parliament in painting a difficult picture for Europe's Jews.



For the first time, Germany's neo-Nazi NPD is sending a representative to Brussels: Udo Voigt, who recently told Reuters, "We say Europe is the continent of white people and it should remain that way."



The success of the rightists, who in addition to xenophobia proudly carry the flag of opposition to the EU, is a warning light for the future of this ambitious enterprise.



The question is what the counter-responses will be to the success of the xenophobes in Brussels. If the EU manages to overcome the challenges of the coming years and makes it to the next scheduled election, in 2019, will the opponents of the ultra-nationalists match their success in signing up new voters who will balance out the support for the extremists?

Frankly, this was not difficult to see coming. To eyes that have watched the reality of all that has been forced upon Europeans of late, it was inevitable



If you cannot understand that what you are seeing with your own eyes and demonstrating yourself (albeit far overplayed and heavily cherrypicked as is par for your course) is the inevitable result of what your prize "regressives" have done to Europe, I am not surprised.



Maybe some day you will grasp the reality of how this all came to be and understand what brought it all on as you watch  Europe descend from here on. don`t worry it will have to be the military that takes over..they are the only group large enough, trained and organized to round up the people responsible and deal with them.....aside from the re-education camps there will be millions in each country that will have to be deported so that will be a logistical nightmare in itself.....

It's not clear that Europeans are endorsing fascism with their votes. The link said this;  "UKIP or the National Front might not win general elections in their respective countries. But last week UKIP won a staggering 161 local town hall seats, twice what pundits had expected, stealing equally from the left and the right. Something new is happening".



Voters are still voting for traditional parties like Labour, Conervative, Christian Democrat or Socialist at the national level, but increasingly shunning them at the European level. It would appear they are trying to send a message to the larger governing body.

If the countries of the Americas set up some multi-national organization like the EU say with headquarters in say Costa Rica, I too would be skeptical. If this organization took legislative powers away from the provinces and Ottawa and gave them to Costa Rica I would be unhappy. If this government created a massive bureaucracy, was top-down, passed cumbersome legislation that choked economic growth or spurred recessions/deficits I would be pissed. If this all-powerful multi-national organization created porous borders that pushed up unemployment and pushed down wages, I would be looking for any political party to undo this mess and get us out of the organization.
