That would be a disaster for trade. They would ban export of products they don't like such as LNG. They would block the imports of everything they don't like such as propane barbeques.

I'm wondering if that's such a good idea. When the petrodollar was riding high, sure. But Biden has fucked over the Sauds something fierce during his tenure and if there's one thing the Sauds and their nappyheaded ilk despise it's the breaking of agreements. Granted, Biden is one man; so is Trump and so is anyone that comes after. From a Saudi perspective that means they cannot rely on long term US cooperation, subject as it is to the whims of any random yahoo that assumes the Commander In Chief role. Therefore, the future of the greenback isn't as assured as it might have otherwise been and any attempt at an economic union comes with hazards. The EU would be loath to trumpet those.

You still get to measure the worth of the loonie against the greenback on the stockmarket. Agreed, its not an ideal arrangement either, but you at least are shielded in part from some of the worst fuckwittery we saw unfolding in the last administration.
