Amen.
I would go with the Roth era too. Not because I consider DLR a better vocalist. They were not Van Halen after Roth. They became Van Hagar. A different band.

Watch what you say to me or I'll mind FAWK U.

When I think of Eddie at his best, I think of VH with David Lee Roth.

I was never really a Van Halen fan no matter who held the mic. I thought Runnin With the Devil, Unchained, and Panama were okay. So, I guess I would say I like old Roth better.

Sammy Hagar solo was better than either Van Halen singer.

Quote from: formosan on January 02, 2025, 12:40:00 PMHmmm, I don't know....I liked both singers..

Van Halen changed their musical direction with Sammy Hagar which makes a comparison difficult.

Think so?  I kinda hear all Van Halen as just Eddie driving all the riffs.  I think Sammy's musicality added a positive thing overall.

I did like David Lee as a frontman, though.

Blahhhhhh...

There were fewer riffs and more reliance on keyboards with Sammy Hagar. That wasn't Sammy Hagar's idea, it was Eddie Van Halen's.

Apparently musical disagreements with the brothers was one of the reasons DLR quit the band.

I forget what album I heard with Hagar. It was pretty dang lame.

Hmmm, I'd have to do a re-listen and I'm far too lazy for that.  I do know that Eddie was hard to work with according to most. Even his wife left him because he was a jagoff.

That wouldn't surprise me.

This picture is of Eddie Van Halen and his mother taken in 1967. Lot of folks don't know it, but he was half Indonesian Chinese.

Do you mean they screwed him out of his share of the band profits?

Sumpin' like that. I don't recall the precise details, but it was in a Van Halen documentary I watched a few months or so ago.  As for Eddie, i remember thinkin', *what a DICK!"

Amen.
