The American trucking industry is facing numerous underreported challenges that directly impact national security, supply chain integrity, and road safety, among other critical issues that were exacerbated by the Biden administration's open-border crisis.

While the Trump administration's Department of Transportation, under the leadership of Secretary Sean Duffy, has already moved to address some of the many challenges related to the issuance of commercial driver's licenses, often referred to as CDLs, the American public remains largely unaware of the extent of those looming dangers from years of insufficient oversight in this area.

Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought announced Friday that the administration has officially begun issuing reduction in force notices, laying off over 4,200 government workers across several key departments, like Treasury, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security. As the government approaches its third week of the shutdown, Democrats are left weighing their options.

These layoffs come as no surprise. Vought previously threatened Democrats with mass layoffs just days before the September 30 funding deadline. Still, Democrats are feigning surprise.

Canada and the US for sure. Neither country is getting good value for their money.

However, at least the US under Trump is cutting waste.

I don't blame the Trump administration. If Argentina goes back to the failed Peronist policies the US would be wasting billions.

Donald Trump suggested the $20 billion lifeline the US is planning for Argentina could be contingent on libertarian leader Javier Milei's success in the midterm elections.

"If he wins we're staying with him, and if he doesn't win we're gone," Trump told reporters Tuesday, adding that the governments also planned to discuss a potential free trade agreement.

Short-term peso interest rates jumped back into the triple digits as neither the US nor Argentina intervened in the currency market for a second straight trading day. Argentina's bonds dropped across the curve, reversing earlier gains.

"We want to help Argentina," Trump said, touting trade as a way to bolster the country. "They have great product, and we used to do a lot of trade."

Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced on Wednesday that he is withholding significant funds from a blue state that has failed to comply with English language proficiency standards for commercial drivers.

Duffy warned that there would be consequences for states that failed to comply with ELP standards.

This issue within the American trucking industry was thrown into the national spotlight in August when an illegal alien truck driver was accused of making an unlawful U-turn and killing three people in Florida. The Indian national obtained his license in California.

The DOT previously described California as "the most egregious" offender in meeting the English proficiency requirement for commercial driver's license holders.

"My message is very simple," Duffy warned. "Get into compliance now, or we'll pull funding and we'll force you into compliance."

The Department of Justice under President Trump has formally filed what appear to be the first known charges related to Antifa as a terrorist organization.

In early July, Antifa gunmen were allegedly involved in a violent ambush outside a federal facility in Texas called the Prairieland Detention Center, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Alvarado, Texas.

In a document citing the incident, the federal government provided more details about an alleged Antifa terror cell.

A "North Texas Antifa Cell" of at least 11 operatives who were "clad in black and donning masks" attacked the detention center on the Fourth of July, 2025, the DOJ wrote in court documents. The government alleged that some of the operatives were wearing body armor and carrying firearms as well.

As Alvarado police were issuing commands to a "black-clad figure," one accused Antifa member allegedly yelled, "Get to the rifles."

That same person then allegedly opened fire on officers, hitting one in the neck area. The wounded officer fell to the ground but was able to return fire.

The accused continued to fire additional rounds until his rifle jammed, which is when the attackers fled the scene, the document added. Police also reportedly found a flag reading, "Resist Fascism. Fight Oligarchy."

Prosecutors previously described the incident as an "ambush" and a "coordinated attack."

Police arrested most of the alleged Antifa cell after the attack. Many were arrested near the scene of the crimes, the DOJ wrote. Alleged Antifa members Zachary Evetts and Cameron Arnold, aka Autumn Hill, were named in the document.

The DOJ claimed that the Antifa cell subscribes to "revolutionary anarchist or autonomous Marxist ideology," which explicitly calls for "the overthrow of the United States Government."

"Antifa adherents have increasingly targeted agents and facilities related to DHS's Immigration and Customs Enforcement," the document added.
