Quote from: "Annie"Oh hey guys, stop trashing on Blue k, you aren't perfect either and I bet you've done something in your life you regret. AND you don't even know if that is true, it could be a story to see who likes to blab....

You and your Asian Canadian Corner ilk must understand the breadth of your absurdity!

ac_toofunny Holy shit, look at Mel, talking like he has some form of education or cerebral abilities under his belt. The truth of the matter is he has been a life long failure personally and professionally. His greatest achievements are driving women into making desperate life decisions and killing his pets.

Oh and did I forget to say that driving a filthy, rickety bucket of rocks around is his greatest professional achievement?  ac_toofunny  His awards for being such a "go-getter" are impressive and they include boredom and a good case of trucker's roids. Yep, that's about as far up the food chain Mel has ever gone and likely ever will.

But hey, it's all good because as much as the world needs successful people it also needs losers and ditch diggers to do the menial shit that no one with a brain and a little ambition wants to do. So I guess people like Mel are in a way necessary because after all, if nothing else, what would the rest of us do for comedy relief?

That is quite harsh about working class people Renee..

I am only an administrative assistant and my husband has a master electrician designation..

He is shop superintendent, but where we are is likely as far up the food chain as we will ever rise.

reel

Mel isn't working class Fash.  Mel is lumpen who is occasionally employed when he can convince the boss that he's not too drunk or hung over to drive his rust bucket.

From the menial shit that no one with a brain and a little ambition wants to do, what are these menial tasks that no one with a brain wants to do?

Fash, both you and your husband are skilled workers with careers. What I'm talking about are marginally employed slobs who have no ambition to better themselves beyond the level of incompetence that they currently occupy.

That's not "working class", that's Mel.

You gave the example of ditch digger, but it seems you would say truck drivers are menial workers too..

What about assembly line workers, UPS delivery staff or transit drivers?

Are they menial too?

I am not trying to be a problem, but I wonder which jobs are classified as menial?

Okay, just as an example. In construction when you have a renovation project, you have a demo crew come in and do a rip out. These guys are nothing but muscle they knock holes in walls for a living and nothing else. It requires no thought process and no real ambition, just brawn, a hammer and the ability to know what shit goes in what dumpster.

No real tradesman wants to do that as a career yet there are people who have been doing it for decades because they have no desire to rise above the little station in life that they occupy.

Truck drivers such as Mel are menial unskilled labor. They drive loads of dirt or rocks from point "A" to point "B". No thought involved other than "don't crash the truck". They might just as well be flipping a burger at McDonald's for all the skill or ambition it requires.

Now not all truck drives fit that mold but it's a safe bet that most of them aren't setting the world on fire with their ambition to become more than a guy who drives a truck.

Now don't get me wrong, these people are very necessary and some make a decent living but let's be real and call it like it is.

Once Mel deals with all his shit, he might be able to move on and go up the ladder, till then nah not so much.

I think I understand your meaning Renee..

My husband's company provides a type of technology to drilling rigs..

He does skilled work but the rig crew does not?

But they can move up rapidly too and become a driller, toolpush, directional driller or well site consultant.

Fash, may I suggest that you cease from repeatedly saying you are only an administrative assistant? That is wonderful, Fash. You are a valuable asset in any office. You can also build on that, Fash. Someday you could be the Office Manager, then the Manager or Director even. ac_drinks

I never thought of it, but yes, I will stop adding only.

You may have missed it Azhya, but I had a thread where I wrote that I cannot move up with my current employer because I do not have a degree.
