Well many thanks to all of you. Even the less than helpful and slightly rude Shen Li. I'm actually quite good with a sewing machine. And now I can sew a cute little cape for my friends little one.

...just curious, were any of those links useful to you?

If so, which ones? And of those, which were the best links?

mandy

Well a couple of the links were a little helpful. There's a pattern on one that I could modify to turn it from the complete wrap around cape to the over the shoulders type without too much difficulty. But it turns out my friend doesn't know who Elsa is and the cape has changed to elsa's coronation day cape and dress. So there's a lot of info for those everywhere.

Thanks for your feedback.

Yeah I just wanted to see if my Internet Research skills were worth a grain of salt. Truth is, I know nothing about sewing or patterns, etc. Sifting through the searches was like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Still, its noteworthy that there is so much information on costume making for Disney costumes alone. I'm surprised so much of it can be had for free. It must be getting harder for these sewing houses to make a profit when the consumer can just snag them off the Internet. Before it came along, people had to go down to a pattersn or sewing store to order or buy them. So, it must be lost revenue for them when it can be obtained for nothing these days.

I don't think sewing places are suffering at all for free patterns. I would still buy a pattern any day over printing one online. The cape I happened to be initially looking for just wasn't available in any of the pattern books at the store. Lots of Elsa ones though so that's now what I'm going to do. I'm sure glad I clarified which princess it was that little one loves so much.

A very pretty cape Mandy..

I hope it works out for you..

I miss making costumes for my daughter..

She's fifteen now and has informed me she's too old for kid stuff.

...so seems you changed your idea a bit? I think Elsa's a different character and costume than the original one you referred to - Aurora, Sleeping Beauty.

Here's Elsa - the character from Frozen:

She wears a light cape compared to the other character.

Yes an Elsa cape but not that one. She has that one and she wants the coronation cape. It's darker. But I might still don't the other one for my daughter.

I have never seen a man your age with such an interest in kiddy costumes.

.....I don't, Herm. It was just an exercise in Internet research, Bud!

Actually, I've used the same methodology to locate parts for an old car.

Specifically I had been looking for a throttle & a power steering repair kit for my car. Here's one web site which contains literally millions of car parts:

http://www.car-part.com">http://www.car-part.com

Just about every model make and year listed there.

I'm sure they equivalent sites for those in the oil industry or farming.

Ie - what if you were looking for a replacement part for your 20 year old farm crane? Or a drill bit for your rig? Etc. Anyways, I had ta really dig hard for them car parts. Sometimes its hard to find a throttle for an old car. The best

matches I found on car-part.com were either in New Jersey, Kansas or Louisiana. Couldn't find the part locally.

Joe, I regret posting that. I am not suggesting you are another Galli.

I am sure Mandy appreciates your help too.

JOE

Anyways, you can locate most everything you want for just about any industry or product on google using the 'Can anyone find me...' methodology.

But sometimes ya really gotta dig and dig hard. I really had to for those car parts. And then when you phone the supplier, they often don't have it. Either its sold out, the website inventory is outdated, etc.

There's a bunch on here: http://www.simplicity.com/patterns/costumes/children/">//http://www.simplicity.com/patterns/costumes/children/  This is one of the sites I use for patterns for cosplay.

Hey I like this thread. It kinda reminds of that game we used to play as kids..."I spy with my little eye something that is..." only instead an object in a room you do an Internet search. Oughta keep it going as a way of finding things for people. Could be anything, as long as its findable. Tools, equipment, car parts, restaurants, Ladies fashions, vacations, whatever.
