JOE

Recently, I've met a number of people who approach me & ask me if I believe in the Bible and God. So I just tell them "I don't know." One guy told me that God can fix anything in an instant, like "abacadabra". But of course in real life, most everything does not change in an instant. Nor can it be undone. Ie - if a person is in a serious accident, often they carry these injuries for life and usually  never completely recover from them. Can this sort of catrastrophe be undone? Well possibly, but not in an instant. It takes medical specialists, several operations, physical rehab and of course money. Yknow, that green stuff that is made by us - humans. That's right, its MAN MADE. Its not a miracle nor magic.

Or another exampe, if someone goes around committing mass murder, then goes to trial and says, "I've repented. I found God." But of course, his deeds can never be undone. You can't bring back the people he murdered.  Even God can't bring back the Dead who didn't deserve to die.

Which begs the question - if people are to believe in Christianity, the Bible or any other faith - shouldn't it at least be practical in order to have meaning in our lives? And logical too? I don't discount that there are some truths in the Bible or there could be a Jesus Christ, but I want it to be real. I find it annoying when people like I've mentioned approach me with unrealistic religious solutions rather than ones which are grounded in reality and actually solve our problems.

Anyways, I'd like to hear what Fashionista, or Dove if she's still around, have to say about this.

I am a Christian too Joe. I was saved in my mid thirties. I can tell you that God has brought both immediate and grafual change to my life. Everybody's testimony is different of course. God works on his timeline not ours.

Christians are so intolerant. As Justin Trudeau said " born again Christians are the worst" Nowhere in the bible does it say people should be tolerant.
I care, you pay

I don't get your point. First it seems you are saying Christians(at least the ones you have met) fail in letting their light shine through. And then it seems you are saying that is what they are supposed to do. :confused1:

All religion is subversive, illogical and irrational.

Why people who "save" themselves from their own personal demons, whatever they may be, feel the need to allocate responsibility to an illusionary deity defies belief.

People "save" themselves. They make their own decisions. They set their own destiny.

It is remarkable that sensible, intelligent and reasonable people claim that their individual salvation is "proof" that god exists, whilst billions of others live in misery, despair and agony. There is an element of extreme selfishness that fosters such delusions.

I agree, but who cares. Islam on the other hand is lethal. A deadly ideology that pretends it is just a silly religion.

That is because it is not a religion in the first place.

I have seen our God work in the lives of people who love him in ways that I cannot explain..

Often not what we want, but what is best for his glory.

If you cannot explain it, why do you believe it?

Quote from: "Oberon"If you cannot explain it, why do you believe it?

I did not say I cannot explain what God has done in my own life..

A relationship with God through Jesus Christ is deeply personal..

I cannot explain or understand what God has done for them, but I know they do.

Bricktop

So, how do you know God has done anything in your life? Why can't you take responsibility?

If God is so benevolent to YOU, why is he such a despotic and cruel overlord to millions of others?

You give credit to man when it is undeserved and blame to God..

It's the other way around...

I grew up in a Christian home, but I was a church kid who road my parents coattails, but I did not really have a relationship with God..

I was in my late teens that I really received Christ as my Lord and savior and there were noticeable changes that followed.

It all happened in your own mind, Fash.

There is no tangible evidence of any such deity, except for that which exists in your own mind. No cosmic entity affected you or your life. You did. And as much as you would like to believe, why not be honest and say you believe in your god because according to his representatives on earth, you will be granted immortality.

Put another way, the fact that death is absolute and the termination of your existence frightens you.

Who the hell cares? If she wants to believe that is what happened, is it any skin off your hide? Religion is harmless. Ideology is the enemy of advanced civilization.
