Allstate approved for 34.1% rate hike in California, affecting over 350,000 policyholders

Allstate, one of California's largest insurers, is set to raise rates by an average of 34.1% after receiving approval from the California Department of Insurance.

The rate hike would impact more than 350,000 policyholders statewide come November.

"This home insurance rate approval allows us to continue protecting our existing customers as we work with the California Department of Insurance to improve coverage availability and create a more viable and sustainable homeowners insurance market for consumers in the state. Higher home values and repair costs coupled with more frequent, severe weather lead to higher payments to help customers recover, so we need to adjust rates to better reflect the cost of protecting our customers," company officials said in a statement to KTLA.

Allstate is the state's fourth-largest property and casualty insurance provider, representing about 5.5% of the overall market as of last year, according to the Department of Insurance.

Foreign cartels now control vast sections of rural California.  Mostly Mexican and Chinese cartels growing weed using banned chemicals which are so toxic it is unsafe to smoke the weed.  The chemicals used also kill tons of wildlife.

Has Newsom or the state Democratic even addressed this?

It is obvious Gavin Newsom wants to run for President in 2028.  He was really pissed that Kamala got appointed and he wasn't allowed to contest it.  He even got snippy on TV news about Kamala's undemocratic appointment.  Now, Newsom is desperately trying to change his image from a far left radical to a more moderate position.

A bill from the California legislature could prevent the distribution of memes in election season because they could be deceptive or damage a political candidate's reputation.

The bill is called the Defending Democracy from Deepfake Deception Act of 2024 and is ready for Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom's signature. The governor has until the end of September 2024 to sign it into law.

The bill's digest notes that existing law prohibits any person or entity from distributing deceptive audio or visual media about a candidate for elected office within 60 days of the election if it intends to "injure the candidate's reputation or to deceive a voter into voting for or against the candidate. "

The new bill would require any "large online platform" to block content deemed deceptive during the periods before and after an election.

In other words, don't hold prog politicians accountable or else.
