My opinion....based solely on a forum like this.



1. Fair minded....You need to be impartial.

2. A strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.

3. Even tempered.

4. Honest...no shit kinda person.

6. Low tolerance for moronic trolling.

7. A good grasp of forum rules.

8. And Most importantly and regardless of everything else; you need a CLEAR DIRECTION from the forum owner. Without that, you are just guessing.... Most mods fail their responsibilities when they are left to their own devices.

As for the contribution thing.....that is entirely up to the individuals conversational gifts and posting style.



Beyond being able to set a good behavioral example and keeping the convo civil, contribution to discussion is secondary. Brick's claim that a mod needs to contribute in order to improve the forum smacks of bias because it is directed toward one particular mod of whom he has a problem with.



I take Bricktop's assertion with several grains of salt.

Mods don't need to be great contributors, although some are, and some are not.



There's two reasons for this...  First off, at times there's often a fair bit to do in the background on busier forums like DV was.  Everything from removing a certain post for Simi Sara, to communicating with IHIT, and everything else in between.



Then, your posting style typically changes once Mod, as you are now technically supposed to lead by example.  On DV, most Mods used a "regular" handle for regular posting, and Mod handle only for Mod duties.  This worked quite well, but nonetheless many regulars could tell who was who.
