Will China one day become an Ice Hockey Powerhouse?

...the Chinese are late starters on the International Ice Hockey Scene.



While there have been players of Chinese descent in the NHL, there hasn't actually been one that has gone to the NHL, like say professional basketball.



Here's a list of players of Asian descent, including Chinese who have made it to the NHL:

The only Chinese born citizen ever to be drafted by an NHL team is Andong Song.



He was taken by the New York Islanders:

...will he be the first player of Chinese citizenship to play in the NHL?



And if so, will many follow?



China has one thing going for it - numbers. So out of 1.4 billion, they're bound to produce at least one elite superstar.



China one day challenging the Hockey powers of the world? Maybe in 25-30 years when the get their hockey program up and running.
