The federal  government and my province in particular spend a huge percentage of services budgets on unionized labour. In Alberta, nurses spend less than half their time with patients.

Sorry, but its true. There are, of course, dedicated and conscientious MEN and WOMEN who work hard for the taxpayer...but for every one of those, there are many more who are a waste of office space and enter the public service in lieu of the dole queue.

Whenever cuts are made to public spending or just floated the public sector unions spend huge amounts of money on advertising. It's always the same disingenuous emotional porn about draconian cuts destroying students and hospital patients. The public usually falls for it.

With their defined benefit pension plans they are a huge liability for future generations of taxpayers. But, try cutting a dollar from the public spending and their unions will spend millions brainwashing the public into believing the cuts are"draconian".
