Quote from: "Zetsu"Bricktop why not get a BenQ projector and a 100" projector screen for as cheap as 70 USDs along with a set of Logitech THX computer speakers?  That's currently what I have in my basement, I'm sure you'll like it too.

All for under $1000 you have yourself a home cinema setup, and can always upgrade to a larger screen when needed.  ac_cool

The issue I've had with a projector (I have one) is that in daylight they are not so effective. Also, for some reason, wives don't like large white screens on their walls.

In a basement they are ideal, but in a large windowed house, less so.

Can I watch Netflix on it without my laptop or tv?

Sorry for the questions, but I don't know anyone who has Ben Q.

Lol you don't need the TV anymore Fash, without a laptop you can still use ur smartphone or tablet and stream movies or netflix to the Chromecast that is connected to ur projector to watch your favorite films.   ac_cool

So, as long as you subscribe to one of the streaming services, the Chromecast will work for the projectors?

Yep, the Chromecast is a receiver for non-smart TVs or projectors that doesn't have Netflix built in services in their system.  All you need to do is just have a phone/tablet, Chromecast, projector, white colour wall or matte white screen and a set of computer speakers.  Think the Chromecast only cost like $45 CAD before taxes.  Aside from the phone/tablet the whole set still cost less than $1000 USD, it's pretty cheap considering you're getting about a 100" cinema in ur very own home.  ac_cool

We have a couple of other expenses coming up soon, but I'll see how my husband feels about it..

Our wreck room would be ideal for a projector.

Man I'd hate to say this but your exactly right about it... never realized about this issue since I've always installed my projectors in the basement.  Better tell Fash about this before she and her husband decides to buy one.

Fash if you don't mind me asking, does your wreck room have any thick blinds or curtains to block out the day light?  In Brick's previous post prior to yours he had just mentioned the one of the biggest issue with projectors that even I never realized is they only display well in a very dim to dark environments.  Or if you have a spot in the basement it would be a really good location.

Our wreck room has small windows that we can easily cover to keep out the bright sunlight.

Ahh ok, then it shouldn't be a problem as long as they aren't much bigger than most basement windows.  Or if possible you can try searching for a projector that has a more powerful punch in lumens just in case if the room is still a bit too bright.

Sunlight won't be a problem, but spending over a thousand dollars right now will.

Really...  I install every electronic component, from start to finish, so don't you think I would've studied optimal mounting heights before drilling into my walls?

I did study.  Rested back on my genuine leather couch, the height I mounted my TV at is considered optimal.  Understand that it swivels also (and can slide too), bringing the screen directly in line with the viewer.

How you've managed to combine optimal TV mounting height, with women not liking me, is beyond my willingness to even care.

Can't tell the difference between 60" and 65' really...
