BTW Berry was just wondering which new camera did you got?  If you're using any large sensor compact or interchangeable lens camera then Brick, Vanguy and I should be able to give you some of our old tips.

Tbh that's a really good question, for me I take pictures usually of moments that I find emotional or precious, if not then it's something interesting or funny, or just simply anything but normal.  ac_cool

I've always been into the artistic shot...not just a picture of something..but the way it is shot...you know what I mean? I can complicate art sometimes, but I like to strive for something interesting.

This might sound kinda lame but I'd recommend a camera holster or good quality shoulder strap with you, mainly b/c unfortunately a lot of good moment or the right time to take a shot usually only last a few seconds, so pretty much always have you're camera next to you.  ac_cool

I'm not too familiar with Canon DSLRs but from teh specs of it should be on par with my Nikon D5300, if not better  ac_cool , and still pretty glad and relief you didn't bought those small digital cameras.  As you already know good lighting is the most critical factor into getting good quality shots, I'd say put a 1.8 aperture prime lens on your shopping list, they might lack zoom but for the price and photo quality they can take they're the best bang for the buck imho.  ac_cool

I'm afraid creating art itself is out of my league nor something I ever really thought of.  Though one type of art style shots I can never get tired of is shooting "Bokah"s, this is why I'd recommend a large aperture lens, not only for getting good quality shots, but giving you the edge when it comes to choosing what to be in your depth of focus.

The EOS M6 is a Canon mirrorless camera. They have a very limited number of EOS-M lenses. If you set the camera to P mode you should be able to summon the flash by pressing a button.

They're actually not that good. I get so many blurry photos. I guess it's about having fun. We're not making money. Just a hobby. I see good photos from caskur, bricktop, and zetsu.
Time is malleable

Bricktop

I get maybe one in twenty reasonable shots, and 1 in 100 good shots.

That sounds a lot, but I'd take 600 shots at a time.

I read a review once about a wildlife photographic tour in South America led by a world class wildlife photographer. One of the attendees was so happy he'd got ONE great shot during the week. He took 15,000 images.

Digital photography means using continuous drive almost constantly. In the old days of 3 to 5 frames per second on film cameras, you could burn through 20 rolls of film to get one good shot. Even those fantastic pro shots you see are the best of perhaps thousands of images taken. 20 rolls of film plus processing is expensive, so using the continuous drive was done judiciously.

Not any more.

My Olympus takes 10 frames per second, an unheard of rate in the film age. You can fire off 100 frames in a minute.

The chances of getting that 1 in a hundred are pretty good with decent kit and some photographic knowledge. Knowing how to set your camera up is half the battle, but then you just fire away.

It's what pro's do...even in the studio...the cover of Cosmopolitan looks fantastic, but you don't get to see the dud shots that were  also taken.
