QuoteIn recent days, Trump has repeatedly tweeted about a caravan of illegal immigrants making their way from Honduras to the US border via Mexico. The President had threatened to end the NAFTA agreement if the Mexican government did not stop the caravan and to end U.S. aid to Honduras.

I believe it was estimated at 1500.  It may be less now.  When Trump threatened NAFTA Mexico decided it needed to do something.

Were they planning on entering the US illegally or asking for asylum?

I've seen some news items say they are "demanding asylum" but that could be a mischaracterization.  If they are asking for it and willing to hear "no" then that is fine.  If they are demanding it, or going to march into the US anyway, they need to be stopped and or arrested.

Frood

Marching in a large group into another nation with expectations is an assault. They need to build that wall.
Blahhhhhh...

If they ask for asylum, they have to accept that coming from Honduras there's a strong probability their applications will be rejected.

Honduras has the worlds highest murder rate per country.

which is probably why you said that.

IMO only refugess in danger of genocide should be given asylum in the US.  And they should be allowed in small quota numbers and vetted.  All other immigrants should be admitted on a points system, and limited by quota as well.

The US, Australia, Canada etc are great countries to live in.  Efforts should be made to insure they remain that way.

I fear the US is already a lost cause.

Mexico has systematically undermined its communities by sending millions of its people over the border, in return for billions of dollars being sent back.

The Mexican government is complicit in the "invasion" of the US.

Exactly. Honduras is a crime ridden hole for sure. But, that doesn't meet the UN definition; "refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group."

Bricktop

And even then, that does not explain why safe, well governed countries have to take them in. Let them deal with their own mess.

We don't have to take people fleeing  high crime rates. We take people fleeing persecution.

Trump is placing the National Guard at the Southern border until the wall is built. Both Obama and Bush had deployed the National Guard at the Mexican border temporarily to deal with illegal drugs crossing the border.
