GAZIANTEP, Turkey –  Survivors described it as something akin to a horror movie: babies foaming at the mouth, children choking and victims wailing as their eyes burned.

Those in the rebel-held Syrian enclave of Douma say they immediately knew their region had again been assaulted by chemical weapons -- and something stronger than just chlorine.

Ahmed Saleh, a 26-year-old volunteer with the Syrian Civil Defense -- also known as the White Helmets -- told Fox News that the suspect rockets landed in an area called Al Shohada Square around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

"There was a strong smell, and we entered one of the shelters to help the civilians there, but I couldn't go all the way because I felt the symptoms of suffocation, difficulty breathing; my tears began to fall profusely," he recalled. "We, paramedics, saw everyone in the shelter lying on the ground. I do not know whether they were dead or alive, but none of them were movin

I don't get this and am skeptical that Syria would do it, knowing they would lose 1000 X more than they could gain using them

This assumes that the Syrian armed forces are under the control of the Government.

What is clear is that Government control is patchy and kaotic, as is Russia's "influence".

However, that does not exempt Assad from culpability. Time for some more cruise missiles. In Damascus.

BBC - A military airport in Syria has come under missile attack, the country's state media has reported.

Its air defence system was activated, the reports said.

Syrian TV said loud explosions had been heard near the T4 airfield in the city of Homs in the early hours of Monday.

Details are still emerging and the reports have not been independently verified.

"Several missiles hit the Tayfur airport," Syria's state news agency SANA said. Details are still emerging and the reports have not been independently verified.

The reports come amid global alarm over a suspected chemical attack on the rebel-held town of Douma.

US president Donald Trump branded Syria's President Assad an "animal" on Sunday, warning that he, along with allies Iran and Russia, had a "big price to pay".

Loud explosions have been heard near the T-4 airfield in the Syrian city of Homs, Syrian state television reports.

It said that the airfield was targeted with several missiles and that Syrian air defence was responding.

Several US officials said there was no truth to reports that the US military was behind the strikes on the Syrian government base.

Same here. I want more proof first.

cc

yes - need more proof, especially when US military says "no"

Reuters also reported two senior US officials had said there was no truth to the reports of any US strikes against Assad bases in Syria.

Just saw Syria saying they knocked down several missiles ... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ... don't think so ... maybe false alarm

Israel, maybe. Didn't know they had hit that base

While they have hit Syria to protect their interests, and can do damned near anything, the motive (gas use) here would not be their "thing" to act upon

Still, earliest reports I saw were low flying planes coming over Lebanon.

Syria says "missiles"  ... not characteristic of Israeli attack ... and Syria says it shot 8 missiles down ... highly unlikely

dunno who or if it even happened for sure

I'm skeptical about this for now anyway.

cc

me 2 ... Syria's word alone is not proof

and Trump has not tweeted  ac_biggrin

Anyhow, as to the OP Question, I have always suspected the rebels would be likely to use them to frame Assad to get the West to take their side more so

I figure Assad would not as he knows the price he would pay .. it would be a total loser for him and he knows it

Rouge general as Brick alluded to another possibility
