Edmonton gore-site operator charged with posting alleged Magnotta slaying video

EDMONTON - The owner of an Edmonton-based "real gore" website that prides itself on graphic real-life images is in custody after being charged for allegedly posting a video online that shows the murder of student Jun Lin by Luka Magnotta in May 2012.



Mark Marek, 38, was arrested and charged with corrupting morals after turning himself over to police in Edmonton on Tuesday.



He said Marek may soon face charges for other content on his website, possibly under hate crime laws.



A statement posted hours before Marek's arrest says: "I've dedicated my life to fight against Evil and Lies, and I know that God and Truth are on my side. I do not fear the servants of Satan." He also refers to the ZOG, an anti-semitic reference to a 'Zionist Occupied Government' conspiracy theory.

 After he was arrested and charged by police July 16, but was released July 18 on $7,500 cash bail, including a number of conditions banning him from having a cell phone, and he's not allowed to access the internet.



At that time, the Crown argued Marek was a flight risk.



It's those bail conditions Marek said contributed to an arrest warrant being issued for him – he said he couldn't find a place to live without the internet – the warrant was issued July 26, and he was arrested in Nisku the next day.



On Thursday, Marek was released again on $500 bail.



In the interview Friday, Marek echoed what his lawyer had said in court, that Marek can't earn a living running the websites he owns, and that he still had not found a permanent place to live.



Marek's next court appearance has been scheduled for September 12.

Edmonton – A group of people marched down Edmonton streets Friday evening to show solidarity against hate crimes and intolerance.

Rabbit asked participants to dress in one of three colours: purple, to represent the fight against homophobia; pink, for anti-bullying; red, in honour of past hate crime victims.
