I noticed too on the comments lol!

I could not figure out a proper thread title without poking a lil fun at Brick at the same time. Seeing how he has that whole anti gun agenda going.

I understood that was why - maybe edit title to add something friendly like "OZ Gun Slaughter - Bricktop, Are you OK?"

A murder suicide. Seven people dead.

Bricktop

What this demonstrates clearly is that even when the possession of a firearm is justified as a primary producer with no criminal record, it reverts to a murder weapon in seconds.

Put another way...there is no such thing as a "legal" firearm. Or a safe one.

A gun makes it easier BUT--There many implements people can kill people with.  My sons little league baseball bat in the basement.   The car I drove today.  The crowbar in the back of it.  The knife I chopped green onions with for dinner.  The hammer I used to pound nails last week. The liquor bottle I keep in a cabinet.  And a lot of others.  If people want to kill people there are many other ways to do it and they are all readily available.

AND if you want a gun they aren't hard to get.  Even apparently, in Australia.

Does that include one wielded by police?

Bricktop

Guns are not totally forbidden here. Certain types, such as military and military style weapons, heavy calibre semi autos, pistols and others are banned.

Primary producers are permitted firearms for obvious reasons.

And yes...it does include those wielded by police, as events in the US prove when an Australian woman was shot by a muslim cop.

And again with the argument about screwdrivers, tampons and clown masks all being used as murder weapons. Its a specious and evasive argument. These things are not designed or intended to kill. They are adapted, and are not very good at it compared to a device designed for one sole purpose. To kill. Guns have NO other redemptive purpose. You cannot drive them to work. You cannot cut your steak with one. You can't hammer a nail with one. It is an efficient killer. Nothing more or less.

Even in the hands of one the law deems "safe and responsible", a firearm can kill a family of 7 with ease.

Absolutely guns are a more efficent killer.  But any able bodied person  can take any one of a hundred household items and sneak up on someone and kill them.   And there's almost nothing that can be done to stop it.

Its not gun laws that stop people from killing, it is their consciences and the fear of being imprisoned if caught.

BTW take a look at Brazil's gun laws ( I have been reading up on Brazil because of our fine new addition Red Brazil Nut)--they are more strict than Canada's, certainly more than the US's but their murder rate is through the roof high

QuoteIn Brazil, all firearms are required to be registered with the minimum age for gun ownership being 25.[1] It is generally illegal to carry a gun outside a residence, and a special permit granting the right to do so is granted to certain groups, such as law enforcement officers.[2] To legally own a gun, an owner must hold a gun license, which costs BRL R$1000,[2] and pay a fee every three years to register the gun, currently at BRL R$85.[3] Registration can be done online or in person with the Federal Police.[4] Until 2008, unregistered guns could be legalized for free.[5]

In 2005, a majority of Brazil's population voted against banning the sale of guns and ammunition to civilians in a referendum. However, the Brazilian Department of Justice (Ministério da Justiça), which performs each individual's mandatory background check (which is made prior every gun acquisition, and every three years after it is acquired, which allows gun confiscation at the discretion of authorities), have been forbidding almost every citizen from buying guns,[8][9] based on the Executive Order # 5.123, of 07/01/2004 (Decreto n.º 5.123, de 1º de julho de 2004),[10] which allows the Federal Police to analyze the given reasons for owning a gun, under which "self defense" is not considered a valid reason because there are allegedly sufficient public police officers to maintain nationwide security.[11]

Thus, disarmament is effectively happening in Brazil,[12] as are massive gun confiscations,[13] notwithstanding its refusal by Brazilian people (at the referendum of 2005). Some argue that this will increase gun homicides. Other research shows that there is a decrease in firearm deaths correlating with disarmament.[14][15] However, 2012 marked the highest rate of gun deaths in 35 years for Brazil 8 years after a ban to carry handguns in public went in to effect.[16]

Stricter gun laws than canada and most other countries, Yet there are as many murders in Brazil per year as there are in all the blue areas combined--

Conclusion: Gun laws may affect crime rates a bit, but they are nowhere near as important as other factors.

Brother, that's a given.

Bricktop

Having gun laws is one thing.

Enforcing them is another.

Nobody is arguing that MURDER or serious assaults can be eradicated. Human societies are inherently violent to some degree. So why do countries like America, Brazil, Honduras and Libya make it easier to kill people?

There is no rational argument that I have seen proffered here or anywhere else that justifies a nation filling itself with firearms.
