I hope he is convicted of second degree murder. Twenty officers around and none of them did anything to diffuse the situation.
QuoteTORONTO – The family of the 18-year-old man shot to death while alone aboard a TTC streetcar last month is "relieved" that Ontario's police watchdog will lay charges against Constable James Forcillo.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) announced Monday morning that it intends to charge Forcillo with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Sammy Yatim.

Yatim was wielding a knife on an empty streetcar, and died after being shot multiple times, then Tasered by police.

The Yatim family said in a statement released Monday afternoon that they want to hold all those responsible for Sammy's death accountable.

"Our family hopes that the SIU investigation will continue looking into the actions of the supervising police officer(s) and the other officers in attendance for their lack of intervention in this tragedy," the statement said. "Over 20 uniformed police officers were present and no one stepped forward to stop the gun shots or offer any mediation."

Amateur footage by witnesses of Yatim's shooting captured the sound of police officers shouting several times for Yatim to "drop the knife."

Nine shots can be heard on the videos with the final six shots appearing to come after he had already fallen to the floor of the streetcar.

why didn't the cops stop yatim with pepper sprays or with stun guns that cause him paralysed, in order to capture him alive?

I dunno Jay. Yatim was no threat to the public or the officers. A cop shoots him nine times with 20 more cops watching. I hope Forcillo spends the rest of his life in a maximum security penitentiary.

I thought this thread was about the cop from the Robert Dziekański incident who recently did himself in. :P

Are you buying a pair of aviator/police sunglasses from VPD for 20 bucks?

I recently joined an online dating website to see who I was matched up with. One person was an RCMP officer (female) from Coquitlam who is into violent role play and is a difficult submissive. She is very attractive.

agreed...this prick should be put away for life...unfortunately in canada that does not happen.....it is almost impossible to convict an on duty police officer in this country...only on extreme rare occasions has a charged officer ever served any time for their crimes....a fucking pity to be sure

It sure as hell is and I don't see this guy ever serving time either. He is not going to be convicted of second degree murder.

no....he will get 3 or 4 years paid leave while the trial proceeds...either the jury will find him guilty or the supreme court will throw it out on appeal and he will be back at work with a raise for the promotions he missed while on leave,......great system we have.....hopefully he is so fucked up he will eat his weapon some day......

True enough CF, but, but, but it is not like any other job. If I were to kill someone while at work I would go to jail for a very long time. A cop kills someone at work and gets a paid leave of absence. Makes me sick to my stomach.

What the fuck is the problem? The asshole was commanded to drop the knife... He did not. He was a threat,

Be glad that he got put down before he hurt somebody. No sane man walks around with a knife in his hand. I don´t think he was collecting money for the red cross.

Every male waves a knife in a streetcar once in a while... Perfectly normal.

Exactly, he probably wasn't sane and therefore needed someone to step in and help him. But no one did.   :(
