The Adelaide Rosella. Note it is practicing good anti-Covid measures by using a gum flower as PPE.

Australian lapwing. Much despised because when it is nesting it will dive and swoop on anything that gets close, and has sharp spurs on it's wing. It is very aggressive during mating season.

This is NOT a good shot but I'm working on it... Two Ospreys doing a mating dance... It was amazing to watch but I had no light. The sun had disappeared behind heavy clouds.

I have some software that might help recover a lot of detail.

Email me if you'd like me to assist.

I like both of your pictures with or without the aid of software.

Bricktop

Thank you.

However, modern photography is no longer about the camera. It's about photo editing software that can assist enhancing and improving images that are unclear. As Caskur's pictures demonstrate, she took them in less than optimal conditions. There is only so much the camera can do to compensate for poor light, especially when moving objects are concerned. Even the most skilled photographer cannot take great pictures when the light is inadequate.

Some software programs can "rescue" images in such situations. They are not perfect but can render a poor image into a useable image on most occasions. Some people think this is cheating, because it is not how the scene looked when photographed.

This is a nonsense argument. Many famous photographs went through many darkroom processes before being published...including images of Hollywood actors. Manipulating photos in post production is as old as photography itself. The first coloured "photographs" were hand painted using darkroom dyes.

Unfortunately, using computer based software demands a learning curve, not to mention the expense of a computer and the software itself. Not to mention the time and practice need to extract a pleasing image from what at first glance looks like a dud. If you can turn an poorly exposed or focussed image into a pleasant photograph, do it!!! If you saw the original photographs of some of my work you would refuse to believe it is the same photograph.

Photographic skill in the digital age includes computer software expertise as mush as darkroom skill was needed in the film age.

Here is what they look like before I try to improve them and sign them.

You can try and improve this one. See what you can do... Yes, it really was this dark.

A hooded plover...endangered species as its coastal habitat is being overrun by humans.

This is really special, your picture. I've only ever seen one lone bird at Point Walter.(picture below).. You know Point Walter in Bicton?  I think the last time I read up on them there were like only 5,000 left or maybe that was Fairy Terns. One of the reasons for their demise is bloody 4 wheel drives running all over the beaches.

Here is a picture of the road to Cottesloe Beach. On the right is 2 huge Norfolk Pine Trees that are ailing but where a pair of Ospreys have built their nest.

The Cottesloe council are removing trees infected with a fungus growth. I am SO worried for the Osprey... the red arrow indicates the  nest area.. As you can see, the 100 year old trees aren't looking their best.

And then when I did have fairly good lighting pre-sunset, I decided to adjust the camera and stupid me upped the contrast X 2  INSTEAD of sharpness, and my subjects was too far away and all I got were shitty shots like this.

See if you can improve this Bricktop. I doubt it but you never know.. The second one, not the first.
