[Vancouver]

It was a little disappointing that I couldn't photograph it. There was also a recent sighting of it in New York City's Central Park. The duck is native to East Asia. Nobody knows how it got here.

Yes, they're all over the place.



They are introduced, of course, but common especially in private parks and gardens.



They are very beautiful creatures.

Domesticated birds do..



Keep the cage door open a when the owners are home and they will be fine.

Well I have rescued battery hens, (chickens that have been confined from birth to 18 months in cages) and as soon as they hit sand for the first time, they start sratching. Within 1 month, all their feathers have grown back, their legs and beaks have gone from white to a healthy yellow and you would have never known they'd lived a life confined to a cage off the ground the month before.





People do make mistakes with some birds like galahs though, putting them from smaller cages to aviaries.. birds will die.





I would have a confined galah in my house and get a stand, put it in front of an open door and let the bird come out on its own accord.  They usually try and fly but they're weak in the wings... it takes about two weaks for their wing strength to return. I always have a thick stick so when they fly to a curtain rod, I just casually stroll over and make them hop on it. They always do.

As I type this, three sulphur crested cockatoos are within 10 metres of where I sit in the breakfast nook. Free and uncaged. Squawking as only they do. They'll fly off in a minute or two.



To think of these beautiful creatures confined to cages is saddening.

Capilano Suspension Bridge, Bloedel Conservatory at Queen Elizabeth Park, Granville Island. I'm sure you have been to these places before but they are a must visit.
