Quote from: "Gaon"Moscow was 7.6 million in 1975.

Yep so he just wrote what was told to him by the tourist guide and didn't stipulate "Moscow".....lol

Quote from: "caskur"That population of "Russia" you're talking about Gaon included other countries like Poland, Yugoslavia, Finland and a few others apparently.

Poland, Finland and Yugoslavia were never part of the Soviet Union. The population of the Soviet Union was 257 million in 1975. And about 55 per cent of that was Russia.

Were not those countries communists including East Germany... ?

I don't know... Kurt's telling me stuff, I'm just repeating it. He's usually misinformed.

Yes, I'd never heard of Finland being communist or even part of USSR.... All the rest I knew.

But places change, they change names and borders. I have a Macedonian friend who grew up under communism. She survived, thrived and became a lawyer.

Siam, Ceylon, Burma... Are ones I remember... Rhodesia became Zimbabwe...

why don't they bloody well just keep their original names...?

And My husband just informed me Finland had to give some of their country to Russia so that's where Finland came into it.

Yugoslavia itself was made up of many republics that all got their independence just like the former USSR..

Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bosnia for example.

In 1993 I went back to high school for a refresher.. I didn't know Yugoslavia had now become Serbia and Croatia and all that other BS...*roll eyes*

I'm sure my history teacher thought I was an alien.

John Curtin School of Arts hosted plenty of kids sent out to protect them from the civil war there a few years earlier... Those Muslim kids treated the Aussie girls in the most filthy manner AND in front of teachers too. Serbs didn't like them and neither did we!~.

Owls are my favourite bird of prey..

The cutest part was the owl with the dog.

Bricktop

I've only seen one in the wild. It was sitting in one of our trees, just looking at us...about 10 feet from the ground. A beautiful bird.
