This is what I see everyday, white ibis... BUT, it's the crack of dawn so the colour isn't full daylight colour here ..

sadly they've been maligned as, "bin chickens" They're very gentle.

I don't know about bins, but they'll clear out your fishpond in a day.

Believe it or not, we have a problem with goldfish and koi in our rivers..



They eat the eggs of native species..



I didn't think they could survive our cold winters..



So, don't release goldfish into our rivers and lakes.

I think they're fantastic... other wordly looking but some people consider them pests.



It's that way with anything native... they're considered pests. ie farmers shoot native birds or poison them... birds that are worth $15,000 a pair overseas.





Sadly, I live in a country of cranks.

And yet only NSW has ever had a trial period for carp bow hunting which is a huge sport and environmentally responsible boon in the rest of the world. They have competitions for it.

They had an electronic stun device that acted on carp only...that was a fail.



They claimed to have a carp-only virus that will kill carp and nothing else.



Still waiting.



The only way to get rid of the carp is to trawl the river and throw the native species back. And that won't happen.
