Yea, and people will usually cherish something when it's finally lost forever.  What was once an eyesore now is a considered as a famous landmark and craved by fanatics.

Hong Kong is a rich city...  Little wonder they removed what was essentially an eye sore.  Same as the DTES (Vancouver skid-row)... it is a problematic shithole eye-sore.

I had forgotten about the former slum in Kowloon.

Do you mean the one at Diamond Hill?

Bricktop

I cannot recall the location.

I just remember it was called the Kowloon Gardens, and it had cannons.

That would be just off of Nathan Road in Tsim Tsa Tsui..

There is a large mosque nearby..

An older South Asian man in Muslim attire tried to attack my uncle because his arm touched his..

There are some unusual people there, but for the most part, it's safe.

Hong Kong have some pretty strange ppl, I remember I was walking in the subway station and there's this nut head guy around my age keeps grabbing my arm saying he knows me and something, though I can't remember the rest he was saying, I just remove his hand and kept walking and he grabbed my arm again and started saying the same thing(most of it doesn't make much sense), I just fling his hand away and he keeps following me and grabbing my arm, it was getting repetitive until I got a phone call from my cousin, one hand holding the phone and the other arm the guy just wouldn't let go, I told my cousin about my awkward situation, he said teh guy is mostly just messed in the head or some retard, then I just removed his hand again and dashed out of the subway station, lol.

That's the place.

One man was covered in newspaper, including newspaper shoes.

We felt quite safe though.

Some of Kowloon's colourful people like to spend their time there.
