Shear says his 17-year-old client was fiercely questioned by the college's admissions director, not about his stellar grades and extracurriculars, but about his "transgression" of following the controversial host on social media. "My client had never 'liked' or re-tweeted any of Mr. Jones' content," said the attorney. "His alleged 'transgression' was that he followed Mr. Jones on Twitter. That was it."[/quote]

there are many hollywood movies made decrying the alleged evils of Mccarthyism

QuoteMcCarthyism-a vociferous campaign against alleged communists in the US government and other institutions carried out under Senator Joseph McCarthy in the period 1950–54. Many of the accused were blacklisted or lost their jobs, although most did not in fact belong to the Communist Party.

For example people who were not avowed communists, but had just attended a communist get together out of curiosity ,were fired from their jobs for it.

This refusal of a college kid based on a very loose association to Alex Jones is at least as bad or worse than what McCarthy did.

This is the left behaving as bad or worse than those they decried as evil.

Even if he was a fan of AJ, so what? Unbelievable. Prospective employers are also now demanding that candidates provide all social media account names as part of the interview process.

Yeah I don't like that at all.  Other than having a felony record I think its not employer's business what people do off the clock.

I see this as just another way for the left to blacklist people for speech they don't like.

Quote from: "Bricktop"Surely there is a legal redress to this madness??
the student has a lawyer but I don't know what recourse they have.  I'm not sure, but I think It is probably not illegal to do what the university is doing.,

That is standard for management positions here.

Don't you have anti-discrimination laws over there?

Yes but they are based on protected classes.  You cannot discriminate based on race, religion, national origin, disability and gender.

While refusing someone admission to a school because they followed Alex Jones is ugly and unfair.  I don't believe it is illegal.

Edit: I just reread the article some salient parts

QuoteAccording to a College Fix report, the college agreed to a settlement with the student to bypass any negative press. Shear (the attorney) has declined to name the school or his client.

QuoteShear is currently advocating for laws which would prevent such social media tracking by colleges and universities.

I'm not sure how he got the settlement,  but sometimes people will settle out of court just to avoid a trial and all the legal costs associated with it.

I think this guy is right.  We need laws to protect people from this stuff.

blacklisting people for social media stuff is ripe for abuse by the unscrupulous leftards.  Todays its alex jones.  Next it will be because somebody liked Trump, or said they don't like abortion, or do something else the lefties don't like.  This needs to be nipped in the bud.

It could be argued that a person's faith or spiritual beliefs necessitate reading those who who share similar philosophies. In Alex Jones' case, abortion, separation of church and state, small government, et cetera.

I agree with Bricktop, politics should not be legal grounds for discrimination.
