FACT: Jet fuel burns at 800° to 1500°F, not hot enough to melt steel (2750°F). However, experts agree that for the towers to collapse, their steel frames didn't need to melt, they just had to lose some of their structural strength—and that required exposure to much less heat. "I have never seen melted steel in a building fire," says retired New York deputy fire chief Vincent Dunn, author of The Collapse Of Burning Buildings: A Guide To Fireground Safety. "But I've seen a lot of twisted, warped, bent and sagging steel. What happens is that the steel tries to expand at both ends, but when it can no longer expand, it sags and the surrounding concrete cracks."



"Steel loses about 50 percent of its strength at 1100°F," notes senior engineer Farid Alfawak-hiri of the American Institute of Steel Construction. "And at 1800° it is probably at less than 10 percent." NIST also believes that a great deal of the spray-on fireproofing insulation was likely knocked off the steel beams that were in the path of the crashing jets, leaving the metal more vulnerable to the heat.



But jet fuel wasn't the only thing burning, notes Forman Williams, a professor of engineering at the University of California, San Diego, and one of seven structural engineers and fire experts that PM consulted. He says that while the jet fuel was the catalyst for the WTC fires, the resulting inferno was intensified by the combustible material inside the buildings, including rugs, curtains, furniture and paper. NIST reports that pockets of fire hit 1832°F.



"The jet fuel was the ignition source," Williams tells PM. "It burned for maybe 10 minutes, and [the towers] were still standing in 10 minutes. It was the rest of the stuff burning afterward that was responsible for the heat transfer that eventually brought them down."

The urban legend that 4,000 Israelis were notified emanated in Al-Manar, the pro-Palestinian "Channel of Arabs and Muslims". The rumor apparently originated with a relatively innocuous Israeli news report speculating that about 4,000 Israelis were believed to have been in the areas of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon at the time of the 9/11 attacks, and that tidbit quickly morphed into the idea that 4,000 Israelis — all of them employees of companies housed in one or the other of the WTC towers — had all suspiciously failed to show up for work on 9/11. Syria's government-owned Al Thawra newspaper may have been the first newspaper to make the "4,000 Jews" claim. Btw I looked at videos of the recent London uk high rise fire and what i saw amazed me when comparing it to the wtc collapse. In the london fire the outside or external cladding appears to have burned up and was falling off the sides of the building and onto the ground.

In fact...and I'm going out on a limb here...given MY experience, as compared to yours (with the rider that I am unfamiliar with the investigative expertise necessary in driving a car for money), it may be possible that MY "quality" is somewhat superior to yours.

And as bad as the fire was, it was left standing after the fire. Yet in the wtc collapse not only did the inner core disintegrate, the outer shell of the building was mostly intact Until the towers fell down.



So how does this happen when footage from other disasters so suggests completely the opposite reaction?



How does a jet induce internal combustion like that when a similar crash several years earlier failed to take down the empire state building which was much older and supposedly out of dste and obsolete engineering methods?

Gee...that means that every house that catches fire ought to collapse as well, right? Because after all, fire is fire is fire.



Joe, again I must call upon my experience. MANY houses and buildings suffer collapse after a fire...typically the roof collapses, and may take a wall or two with it. I have attended fires where all that was left was the iron roof lying on a pile of ash and rubble.



Now, I freely admit I am not qualified to properly assess the cause and effect of the 9/11 buildings collapse, but let's be honest, Joe. Neither are you.



And referring back to my experience...you may be surprised to learn that when investigating a crime, or accident, or fire multiple witnesses will see vastly different scenarios of the event. Believing every version is a fool's errand. So, each perspective  must be closely examined to ensure veracity.



I suggest...before you engage the opinions of others...you do a little due diligence on the qualification, motive, mindset and POLITICAL persuasion of the witness.

The lady, Joanne "JoJo" Capestro, in the iconic 9/11 picture - she eventually made it outside the building and to ground level, she ran into a friend, and the two made a dash to leave Ground Zero, just as the South Tower collapsed.



That's when photographer Phil Penman captured the iconic photograph of Capestro and her friend, who are seen covered in debris, ash and dirt. Capestro even appears to be barefoot.
