Quote from: "Bricktop"Although I support him being punished, I feel that putting an 80 year old man in gaol is not a just punishment.

I think people in his position...convicted in later years of crimes committed long ago...should face a different sanction.

Home detention with a MASSIVE fine that is substantial enough to strip him of all accrued wealth, so that his home would be a small cottage in a poor area, and a small amount for bills paid each week from his seized estate. if he is an entertainer, all future royalties will be paid into revenue.

He is thus imprisoned, stripped of his wealth and dignity, and is no burden on the taxpayer.

All those oldies with wealth can shift it to spouses or children and extended family BEFORE they're convicted. That's why. But I agree in principle, take their wealth where possible.

It'll be the Spannish Inquisition all over again.

Once an investigation is begun, all assets are frozen.

Is that the American law though?

It seems most European Union nations have similar laws.

How would they pay for lawyers to defend themselves?

I wonder if it's enforced.

In Australia, if you are caught manufacturing drugs or growing marijuana, they take all your property. I agree with that but I cannot see Americans having their money suspended when they state you are innocent until proven guilty, meaning, even a person under investigation is still an innocent person.

If  they are proven innocent, they would get back full  access to their assets.

The order is made upon conviction, but not implemented until 28 days afterwards. (In case of an appeal).

The cops here freeze assets regularly. What else would they do with organized crime.

Bricktop

Freezing them isn't forfeiting them. Only a court order will strip assets from a criminal.

Until a verdict is reached by a court.

Of course and that's what I meant.
