TransLink has secured $7.3 Billion in extra funding over the next ten years, and is moving forward and expansion plans.

Got a letter from my employer yesterday stating the need to hire and train 400-500 new city bus drivers EACH year, for at least the next 3-5 years.

They've already ordered  600 new buses to be delivered over the next two years.

Plans call for an additional depot in the city to house the expanded fleet. That brings the number of depots up to 7.

Driving is NOT for everyone, and is NOT the only opportunity.

Big bus =full time, six weeks paid training. Currently $22.53 thru $32.19 an hour.

Mini bus =part time to start, two weeks paid training. $19.37 thru $26 an hour.

Also saw a news article about Amazon building another warehouse in Delta, and will need 700 new employees once it opens.

As do I.

In the US, the core license is the CDL which is standard nationwide.  In my state, there's a passenger endorsement that attaches to it, for public transportation or livery.  And for school busing, there's an additional endorsement.

All driver's licenses are provincial jurisdiction in Canada.

That's pretty much the case here also.  The CDL is state-issued but there is a national template for it that states have to follow.  Thank Big Insurance for that.

But, yet auto insurance is cheaper in the USA..

And several provinces in Canada have government owned auto insurance.

As a police officer I had to conduct practical tests when in country towns.

Can't sit next to a learner unless you hold an appropriate licence.

Also, I had to drive the Academy bus when taking Cadets out on field exercises.

Government owned auto insurance is bad for responsible drivers.

Fyi: The bus driving postings have ended, for now.... Might have to do with the delay in launching the three new Bline routes until 2020.

But SkyTrain has added their need for more SkyTrain attendants. $32.61 an hour. Click onto the BCRTC page off of http://www.translink.ca/careers">www.translink.ca/careers I believe that having first aid certification is a requirement.
