SMF - Just Installed!
Quote from: JOE on August 01, 2025, 10:59:01 PMAnd I'd never move to Singapore is it's too fuckin hot for tastes. Isn't it like 90 F or 30 C much of the year? Like no thanks. Even Vancouver is unbearable these days and it's only 25 C or about 80.
I can't stand all that heat, Shen
Quote from: Shen Li on July 25, 2025, 05:34:22 PMAs for Joe, he is a harmless old troll. Hence the trophy thread. If he was young and had the resources he would prolly bail on Canada too like 110,000 Canadians did last year.
Quote from: JOE on August 01, 2025, 12:47:14 AMOther think I was going to remark on, there's really no need in this day and age to bolt and uproot themselves entirely to one country anymore DoveDove. Especially for Americans or Canadians.
That may have been the way it was 30-40 years ago when the World was less connected financially and electronically. Back then people had to move away, pack up and uproot themselves to another country entirely.
But now...there's all these investor's visas, gold visas, dual citizenship, digital nomad arrangements that the host countries offer so many options to would be expats. They've made workplace mobility a reality. People can live 6 months here, 6 months there. Get a 1 year work visa, a five year one, whatever.
As I said before, I would seek out 2nd passport from another 1st world nation and treat the whole exercise as an additive as opposed to a subtractive one. Other words kill 2 birds with one stone. Why give up your citizenship, when you could get a passport of equal or perhaps superior value?
But that's just me. That's how I'd approach it. Get more not less.
Quote from: Shen Li on August 01, 2025, 05:51:43 PMI heard Ho Chi Min City is starting to resemble Shanghai. Well maybe Shanghai 25 years ago.
Quote from: DKG on July 31, 2025, 09:32:45 AMA lot of Filipino Canadians are returning to the Philippines to retire or buy a business.
I am pretty sure indoor plumbing is standard.

Quote from: Shen Li on August 01, 2025, 12:31:48 AMI've only been across the border to Malaysia. I liked it. It is developed. It is clean and has good infrastructure. Certainly better than Canada.I read that a lot of investment is moving from China to Vietnam.
I don't know about travelling to other countries in the region. Singapore is super rich, Malaysia is a middle income nation, but some of our neighbours are in the early stages of development and that would be a bit of a culture shock.
I do want to see Vietnam even though they hate Chinese. It is becoming the economic dynamo of East and SE Asia. I want to go there before it becomes too developed. And besides, I like pho.
Quote from: Dove on July 31, 2025, 04:09:34 AMI think the Philippines have enough of dealing with Americans going over there to "pick wives" amd all that mess.
Plus i like indoor plumbing lol

I aint spent a lot of time in the Philippines, but we had a poster here CC who lived there for about five years. She said she loved it and missed it.
I know the feeling. I miss Borneo Sumatra Vietnam and the whole region.

Quote from: JOE on July 29, 2025, 10:02:38 PMI don't see why people can't live abroad without renouncing their citizenship DoveDove.
Many Americans are moving to places like the Philippines:
I don't deny that people will have to move more in the future for jobs or careers. That's quite possibly the new reality for your daughters & future generations of Canadians, Americans & other Westerners.
But I don't think people have to leave forever or uproot themselves anymore.
Why not just live in 2 places at once? Spend 6 mos in the US, 6 somewhere else.
Yes the world is changing but doesn't mean people cant change with it but same time not tearing everything asunder. Get the best of both worlds. That's how I'd approach it.
Anyway just a thought.
Quote from: JOE on July 29, 2025, 10:02:38 PMI don't see why people can't live abroad without renouncing their citizenshipI don't see how you are able to breathe AND type at the same time. Someone that clueless they cannot see the inherent advantages of no longer being subject to shitty tax burdens, enforced medical experimentation and the encroaching dispossession of their capital and assets clearly has to be flat out concentrating on one thing at a time, let alone two.
Quote from: Dove on July 25, 2025, 01:25:19 PMI actually feel her on this one. She was in Canada for a reason and probably desired a comfortable and peaceful life in which to raise a family.
And then leftarded politics and very poor leadership robbed her of that dream. And that sucks.
Im happy for her she got outta there.
Me? Im an American. Even if i had the resources to leave my country, id honestly rather die then do so.
Maybe thats my patriotic brainwashing to view my country as the land of dreams and home of the brave and free....but, my corpse will be rotting in US soil and ill be voting for democrats after my death like every other American.
