Three Things To Know About The Taliban



1) The Taliban embrace an introverted ideological absolutism.



The Taliban view themselves as the humble servant of God on Earth. Their name literally means "students," in this case, "students" of medieval-era extremist teachings under the Sunni-Hanafi Islamic school. But where terrorist allies of the Taliban such as al Qaeda are centered in Salafi-jihadi narratives, the Taliban are more complicated. They also have roots in Pashtun tribal politics, a dynamic that has given the group enduring influence in southern and eastern Afghanistan.



The Taliban's dedication to the supposed moral purity of a bygone era is sustained both by their fervent study and application of their beliefs. This absolutism helps explain the Taliban's capricious treatment of women and their enemies. It also explains why the Taliban were able to resist NATO and the Afghan government successfully for 20 years. Put simply, Taliban fighters believe they are on a mission of and for God.



2) The Taliban's only true external allies are elements of the Pakistani state.



Yes, they receive funding and support from Qatar. But the Taliban's true friend is Pakistan, which has organized, funded, enabled, and even directed them.



The group has long been viewed by the Pakistani military and its Inter-Services Intelligence as a useful means of enabling Islamist terrorist activity against Islamabad's nemesis, India, and as a blocking force against Western influence. Pakistan has also enabled this patronage relationship in the belief that it is better to have the Taliban under, rather than outside of, its control. Still, Pakistan has been largely successful in avoiding costs for its support of the Taliban and terrorism.



3) The Taliban despise America (& all Western Society)



Whatever conciliatory rhetoric the Taliban now offer, their hate for America remains fervent. Contrary to claims made by both the Trump and Biden administrations, the Taliban remain a close ally of al Qaeda and other Salafi-jihadi terrorist groups — because the Taliban believe that al Qaeda is a partner to the eventual establishment of a global Islamic caliphate.



The Taliban believe that the spilling of American blood is a necessary ingredient for America's acquiescence to Islamic rule. Hence the Taliban view al Qaeda's spilling of American blood as desirable. The United States will struggle to counter this threat over the coming years.



[Actually, it's not just "spilling of American blood is a necessary ingredient for acquiescence to Islamic rule" .. It's ALL of Western Society ... in fact, all not their  pure islam]

Even Dems can no longer bury their heads in the sand about Biden's questionable fitness to hold the top elected office in the country. Trump tried to make it an issue during the election and the Dem allied media pilloried him for it. Once again, the former president was correct.

The 10,000 Americans still in Afghanistan is grossly underestimated. There could be as many as 40,000 Americans Biden left behind to die.

I never liked John McCain or any similar type of Republican. But, he was 100 percent correct about Anthony Blinken. He called Blinken 'dangerous to America and to the young men and women who are fighting and serving it'

President Joe Biden's administration is reportedly charging American citizens upwards of $2,000 to board evacuation flights out of Afghanistan's only operational airport.



Those that make their way through armed Taliban checkpoints and into the airport could then be charged upwards of $2,000 from the State Department to board evacuation flights, sources on the ground told Politico. Non-citizens are being charged even higher sums, the outlet reported Thursday.



Politico reported that the State Department did not deny that it was seeking payments from Americans seeking to flee the country following the Taliban's swift takeover.



"U.S. law requires that evacuation assistance to private U.S. citizens or third country nationals be provided 'on a reimbursable basis to the maximum extent practicable.' The situation is extremely fluid, and we are working to overcome obstacles as they arise," a State Department spokesperson told Politico.



Up to 15,000 American citizens remained in Afghanistan as of Tuesday, NBC News reported.
