My Grandfather was a Young Man during the 1st World War caskur

He told me he worked for 16 cents an hour, 12 hours shifts and his weekly wage was about $10 per week. He shovelled coal into the broilers to power the locomotive train engines which travelled across Canada. That'd be like going from Western Australia to it's Eastern Half.

That's what $10 looked like back then:

...It was made outta Gold and in today's money might be worth $1000 US or $1350 Canadian. However, he rarely touched real physical Gold in his lifetime. Only the very rich could afford luxuries in abundance like that & put them away in their drawers.

Wow, you Cucknadians had it rough, josephine! My great grandfather made $65/wk as an auto mechanic and my grandfather got a gold coin every year for his birthday!

But didn't you say yer Great Grandad lost it all in the Great Depression, Lokmeer?!

That's the thing about the United States. A person can make a great fortune fast, but they can also lose it all in an instant. ie - Many US banks failed during the Great Depression. Meanwhile in slowpoke slow growth Canada, none failed, eh? So people who had money in the bank kept their savings.

Unbridled Free enterprise can enrich many quickly, but it can also be a double edged sword too and wipe them out cuz it lacks regulations. The Banks weren't regulated during the Great Depression and many Americans lost all their savings, eh?

He lost everything he had in the bank, josephine.

After watching this:

I realized you dont know WTF you're talking about, even when it comes to your own country! You Cucknadians suffered even worse than Americans!

Still better to be an American during the depression than a Cucknadian, josephine. Seems you people have an appetite for your government fuckin ya in the ass!

Oh really?!

What does the statement read from Lokmar?

Quote from: Lokmar on November 21, 2023, 01:34:17 PMHe lost everything he had in the bank, josephine.

So I didn't mislead nor attempted to misinform anyone Prowler.

Nor did I deny that the Great Depression  never hit Canada hard.

It did. this is an historical fact. Unemployment reached over 30%.

However, it is also a fact that no MAJOR Chartered Canadian bank failed during the Great Depression. But many in the US did according to the CPA (Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada):

https://www.cpacanada.ca/en/news/pivot-magazine/bank-system-feature#:~:text=Indeed%2C%20even%20during%20the%20Great,calculated%20by%20gross%20domestic%20product.

"Indeed, even during the Great Depression of the 1930s when more than 9,000 U.S. banks failed, none failed in Canada. The U.S. controls about 24.6 per cent of the global economy, calculated by gross domestic product"

Now, it doesn't make the severity or hardship people faced any less , but you can't make up facts.

Lokmar admitted that his Great Grandfather lost his savings in an American Bank during the Great Depression.

is that 'misinformation' Idiot?

Lokmar stated that on a number occasions and I merely just quoted him on that.

Are you an Accountant Prowler? do you know what the hell you're talking about?!

Why are you such a Liar?

You quoted me as if it was some big deal that not a single Canadian Bank failed. If no banks failed and Canadians did better or even as well as Americans, it would matter, however, Canadians did far WORSE!

I never claimed that the economic situaiton was any better in Canada during the Great Depression....Lokmeer! It was just as bad and in some parts of Canada, even worse than the US. 30-35% unemploment was pretty typical. My grandparents/parents remembered all the people on relief and having little to eat or clothes to wear.

People like my parents actually fared better than others cuz they lived on a farm. Even if farmers were poor and broke, they could still grown their own food and live off the land to feed their families. They could 'create' their own economy outside of an economic system which was failing like in the cities.

And bank failures in the US had a lot to do with the rise of radicalism in the 1930s. Socialism fascism and communism flourished as the population became desperate. Folks like your Great Grandad lost everything. His situation was typical. There was radicalism in  Canada around that time too, but I don't think it was as severe as the US cuz the society tho not great, was were socially stable. And the stabilibiy of the banks may have prevented a complete meltdown of society as the US back then was facing.

As far as the lot of the average Canadian, other than the banks remaining solvent, their situation was pretty bad.

I've read my grand grandparents journals through and before WW1, WW2, and the kids that went to Korea.

Times got tough... farming communities pulled through. It was all unofficial barter...

No, but you were talking trash as if Canduhduh had it better. Your own Cucknadian history says it was WORSE!
