We have similar laws here in Oz. That's why the businesses fire, lay off, or go to long term casual/temporary positions where they are shielded from paying people to not work.

I was always of the opinion that if I didn't work, I shouldn't get paid and if I didn't work hard enough, I should be fired.

And those are the businesses who have taken care of me.

I know there is a strong argument for what you're saying, but my husband has been a long term employee and he likes his long annual vacations.

My last job I got 2 weeks, but would have to use a day here n there for various things. My current job it's based on attendance, and builds through the year.

I git six weeks annual holiday time every year, not counting stats when I retireed from Canadian Pacific. I could also bank a week's worth of overtime trips, which is only two trips and get seven weeks vacation in a year.
