So, When we went to the Jack Daniels Distillery over a month ago, I spent several hundred dollars on booze. At my wifes suggestion, I bought a 1L bottle of Tennessee Apple. When mixed with Vernors Ginger Ale, it is the nectar of the God's!!! an 11 out of 10!!!! FACT!

A Don Pedro is a famous South African drink that you have after a meal. Mostly vanilla ice cream and a splash of whiskey. You can also add Kahlua.

The only time I will take a shot of anything like Bailey's is at Christmas. As far as ice cream and liquor-never.

Many have said to me that they'll never mix the two...and I have converted them all. Just try it:

Put a decent serve of vanilla ice cream in a blender, add a splash of whiskey and blend well. Add some shaved chocolate on top for some garnished extra flavour. (Optional)

In a restaurant, I get the bar person to make it for me at the end of a main course, in place of desert.

Tip-top!

You talked me into it. I will buy a half litre of ice cream and try it this weekend.

Vanilla though...trust me. One can also add a bit of Kahlau...

avatar_Lab Flaker, I made that drink last night. It tastes good, no question about that. But, it is not the type of drink you have and then drink some premium beers after. Because we went to a sports bar after making them, I drank less than half of mine.

My girlfriend loved it. She told me to thank you. :good:

I made it last night. It tastes good, but it is a heavy drink. It does not mix with draft beer.

I need to try it myself for sure...

No...you don't go back to beer after that. Wine or spirits won't clash.

It's the same principle with regard to chocolate. You can eat chocolate whilst drinking spirits or red wine...but you can't eat chocolate and drink beer at the same time. It's not right on the palate.

Tonight, I had the opportunity to try several allocated whiskeys and even purchased a couple.

I was able to try a dram of Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel. Its pretty good stuff! Sweet, smooth, easy to sip. A bit light on taste but I can see why its allocated. Made by Buffalo Trace. I'd give it an 8/10. Paid about $20 for it. Cheaper than buying the whole assed bottle for $115.

Second, I got a dram of Russell's Reserve 15 year for $40. Yes, $40. Buying a bottle of this will cost you between $400 and the moon IF you can find it. The flavor is freaking awesome! Its has some high proof burn and I found adding just a little bit of water made it much more drinkable. I'd pay $200 for it but no more. I may never drink it again but I can at least appreciate the hype.

About a week ago, I saw a bottle of Knob Creek 18 year at a Binny's for about $190. No way was I going to buy that, especially since its a Jim Beam mash and they are notoriously not sweet whatsoever. So, I bought a bottle of 12 year.

Let me say, that shit is woody AF!!! I do not recommend! I spent about $75 on it and wouldnt buy another at $40. I'll keep it around for anyone who's curious.

As some of you may have already figured out, my personal jam is Jack Daniels. I like nearly everything they make. JD Black is the best coke mixer, bar none. Gentleman Jack is right up there too.

Today, I picked up a bottle of 12 year which is somewhat unobtanium. I dont even know if I will open it but I hear its only bested by the Coy Hill Release! So far, I've got a small collection of unopened harder to get stuff like Sinatra Select, Single Barrel Rye, and now the 12 year.

I also bought a bottle of Old Forester 1924 and yea, I paid too much. Old Forester is owned by Brown-Foreman, the same owners of Jack Daniels and Woodford Reserve, and it shows. All of these brands are my favorites! The 1924 is good, not as good as what I've seen in the reviews though. I've also had the 1920 and I think its a decent value while the 1924 is overpriced. Oh well, I have a bottle now and it should last me for a year. I might like that E.H. Taylor better tho.
