Quote from: J E B Stuart on March 11, 2025, 05:19:28 PMThe Five Americans was from Durant, Oklahoma. They had a coupla hits, the biggest of them being Western Union. It peaked at #5 in 1967.  I hadn't listened to it in quite a long time.  Frankly, I'd forgotten just how good it is:

Amen.

I remember that song!  I haven't heard that in decades.

Thanks, Jeb.

You're welcome, amigo. Looking back when I was a kid, I recall getting The Five Americans confused with Jay & The Americans. Well, I'm no longer confused. Both groups produced some damn fine music.  Here's a dandy from Jay & The Americans you'll probably remember:

Amen.

One of the first records (45 rpm) I bought was by The Lovin Spoonful.  John Sebastian was the driving force behind the band. This was their first big hit:

Amen.

Aaah, the summer of '69!  I remember it fondly. And I remember this song which is a medley of several good ol' rock 'n' roll standards. These guys formed in 1967 and had a 10-year run. This was their only top 20 hit, but it is a goodie;

Amen.
Deo vindice

The Kinks!  Need I say more?  I think not:

Amen.

I saw The Four Seasons years back. Frankie Valli was and is T4S. They have sold over 100 million records and this song is one of many song reasons why:

Amen.
Deo vindice

Technically, they began in 1956 as The Four Lovers.  In 1960. The name was changed to The Four Seasons. Here's a song by The Four Lovers:

Amen.

They kept the same style when they changed their name.

This song from 1966 is one o' my all-time favorites. Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page were with The Yardbirds then. Some of the coolest fuckers on the planet at the time.  Sadly, lead singer Keith Relf was electrocuted by an ungrounded electric guitar back in 1976:

Amen.
Deo vindice
