I think I read about that, is that where you bind two atoms together magnetically, send one off ten million miles into space, and when you switch the polarity of one atom the other one also switches polarity at the exact same moment regardless of distance?

It will probably be used in communication devices where you can talk to someone on Jupiter in real time just as if they were standing in front of you.

But I was really hoping we could use it to send Hillary to the Andromeda galaxy.

One difficulty in deploying practical applications is having enough entangled particles to build something with (one particle might be able to send something like a Morse code message but little else) and oh yeah, both ends of the "machine" have to be perfectly matching so both ends would have to be developed locally; for interstellar distances one end would take so long to move into position it could take generations upon generations before it arrives at its destination.

We might discover/invent better tools for measuring and manipulating such things but again that's not likely any time soon. We're still far too fixated on global hegemony and tossing celebrities into the upper atmosphere so they can take selfies as they cosplay at being astronauts.

If I were a betting man I'd wager that China has that kind of tech before we do.

Until then it's just a narrative that is being pushed for any number of possible reasons.

Absent *evidence* of the cause any explanation is no better than a guess and confirmation bias turns the whole thing into a popularity contest among competing theories.
