Trump seeks to rebrand Department of Defense as Department of War



US President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Friday that directs the Department of Defense to be known as the Department of War.

The move would restore a name the agency last held in the 1940s and, according to the text of the order seen by the BBC, the aim is to "project strength and resolve".

The department will initially use the new name as a "secondary title" while the administration seeks congressional approval to make the change permanent.

The White House is yet to say how much a rebrand would cost, but US media expect a billion-dollar price tag for the overhaul of hundreds of agencies, emblems, email addresses and uniforms.

Work at a Hyundai Motor car battery facility under construction in Georgia has ground to a halt after hundreds of workers, predominantly South Korean nationals, were arrested in an immigration raid.

The site is one of the Korean car maker's most substantial investments in the US.

Approximately 475 people were arrested, according to US immigration officials, marking the largest single-site enforcement operation in the history of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

A Hyundai Motor spokesperson said none of the people arrested were employed directly by the company.

"Hyundai has zero tolerance for those who don't follow the law."

The arrested workers were being held at ICE's Folkston, Georgia, detention facility, Schrank said. Most of the 475 people are South Korean nationals, he said.

Korean media has put the number of South Koreans detained at roughly 300 people.

They had the wrong type of visas for what they were here for.  Hyundai should've filled out the correct paperwork.

Koreans get ninety days visa free for the US. I don't know if that's how they were in the US or they had student visas or another visa category.
