I don't get to make that call.
My job is to help the administrators do what they've decided to do and currently that includes treating seriously Wizer's suggestions for re-configuring the forum.

I mean, he's not wrong about some of the stylesheet issues in the default Theme so even though no one is stopping him from using a different Theme he's not exactly out of bounds to bring them up.

As for the consolidations and such just to satisfy his personal aesthetic tastes that isn't necessarily trolling... he might only be a narcissist, a control freak, or possibly some other relatively harmless kind of weird.

There's even a chance he really does want this forum to thrive and is advocating all these changes as a way to show us he cares. Stranger things have happened. Granted- not often... but they've happened.

I tried all the other themes. As per the first post they've all got problems except for the ugly brown one. One is completely broken and unusable. Clearly they were never tested for functionality.

I believe the issues were the result of converting and restoring an older database in a newer version of the SMF forum platform. Inevitably some of the older code didn't quite match up with the new and squashing the bugs is an ongoing process.

We'd like nothing more than offering each member their very own personalized forum experience however the logistics of doing that are... complicated to put it mildly.

The administration here is demonstrably willing to accommodate member suggestions and requests as much as possible and in return I think we owe them at the least a bit of patience and recognition that tinkering under the hood of the forum code structure isn't something to be undertaken lightly or hurriedly.

That's my take, anyway.

Fixing all the issues I've pointed out would take under an hour. And that includes taking a half hour break in the middle of fixing everything.

Speaking of bugs, am I the only one seeing this when I click on the "Alert" box (when there are unread messages).

I suspected as much, but I give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

This isn't about me.

Clearly I'm not just fabricating the numerous issues with the forum that I've pointed out, several times now. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize these things adversely affect the user experience.

Unfortunately you *have* made it about you.

There's currently only one user experience that has been so adversely affected that even after identifying some issues and despite the administrators' prompt efforts to address the ones that could be accomplished immediately you've continued to voice the same complaints repeatedly.

Your complaints have obviously been heard and are being handled more than fairly if not with a rapidity to your personal satisfaction.

Badgering the staff relentlessly isn't going to result in quicker fixes; it can only engender frustration and perhaps eventually even enmity.

But you probably already know that. Innit.

In over 2 decades of posting on countless message boards, this is the most broken and poorly laid out forum I've ever seen.

I was simply using my knowledge and experience on the subject to assist in making changes that would improve the workability of the forum, possibly attract more members, and increase traffic.

You make it sound like I'm a whiner and complaining that I'm expecting too much too soon, even though making all the suggested changes would probably take less than an hour.

So you've said.
A number of times in the relatively short duration of your recent visits, at that.

You've been heard and even had some of your suggested changes implemented almost immediately which should prove more than any words that your input is being taken seriously.

What exactly do you hope to gain by continuing to air the same complaints repeatedly?

wizer

I didn't really give that any thought but now that you mention it, and I gave it thought, I really don't know.

I thought about it some more and I guess I really thought that my suggestions would be taken directly on board and integrated immediately as they are clearly great ideas that would obviously be a big improvement and would take hardly any time to implement.

Some were.

Others, in fact, aren't as simple as editing a bit of code and updating that file where it resides on the server. I'm pretty sure I've already mentioned the core forum code, including the stylesheets, is compiled and then installed/uploaded which means any changes have to be accomplished locally and recompiled before the file(s) can be updated.

These are all tasks that have to be undertaken strictly as time allows since this forum isn't anyone's actual job. The tasks need to be handled first and foremost subordinate to real-life demands and responsibilities or when other activities aren't taking precedence.

That's not going to, indeed can't, change.
